I can understand trying to keep a level playing field, but I hope they are using some common sense there.
My brother’s washing machine broke down this week and he uses it for cleaning items linked to his cleaning business. If we were under those rules he might have had a few issues, that would have affected his work.

Are they selling alcohol? Would argue that a toaster or a book is more essential than that. And you could use the same logic with pubs.

Alcohol is considered essential, hence off licences were allowed to stay open all through the first lockdown.

You don't want all the piss artists in the country forced to go cold turkey at the same time, whilst confined to barracks; that could be mayhem. Same principle as smoking being allowed in prisons, when it's banned just about everywhere else.

I understand why some shop keepers were annoyed when they had to close in the first lock-down, but supermarkets were allowed to carry on selling the same items....however. if you carried that to its logical conclusion no one would be allowed to buy on-line either.

I've had to go up to Chester for work as the entire workforce in our Chester site had to self isolate. During the last 3 days I've had to deliver to clients in Liverpool, Manchester, Preston, Southport and Blackpool. I was completely shocked by the attitude of people up here. I've seen people not wearing masks when they should, I saw a person spit on the floor. In short, it is not surprising the NW has been hit hardest.

Still hurting fats? I had one removed last year, was surprisingly painful for at least a couple of weeks.

The last time I had a tooth pulled, beginning of the year, the dentist broke the mounting of the crown adjacent to the tooth he was pulling.
Ended up having the remains of that tooth pulled at the same time.
Still, the self administered filling, I put in a week ago, is holding firm. Touch wood.

Hygienists are people considered too cruel to be dentists.

My hygienist is an artist with her tools, no pain, no stabbed gums and no lectures on why I should spend £200 on a toothbrush.
Perhaps it's because she's Japanese but she actually tries not to hurt me.

It's a real bonus when you don't have any teeth of your own.
