Bobby needs to be dropped next game, at the moment he's shadow of his former self and had been since the start of the season.

Minamino must be scratching his head thinking "why cant I get on".

Prior to scoring, he was hardly involved and had touched the ball the least of any Liverpool player. By the time he went off, he'd had the most touches and covered the most ground. The goal boosted his confidence, dropping him now would be stupid; let him ride the the rough patch so we can drop him at the first sign of improvement <doh>

Sorry but he's been a passenger for too long, drop him and give him the rest or the kick up the arse that he clearly needs.

I think it's best to see how he goes over the next game or two as the goal might bring his confidence back.
If he goes back into his shell, then give Minamino a chance - though I don't think he's strong enough to play Firmino's role and we'd have to re-organise a bit.

Could always out Salah down the middle and Jota from the right.

Motd put us down as a 442 which seems so strange and old fashioned but looking at the early stages makes sense.

That was a really scrappy game and we're fortunate to come out of it with 3 points - but that's how we motored on for the past 2 years so I'm happy.

I'm a big fan of the 4231 but it didn't suit our players, most of all the midfield + Bobby. All 3 had good individual moments but were poor as a unit. I think if you put Fabinho and/or Thiago, then you have a better base in midfield to play this style. Mane and Salah have really stepped up this year. They're on a mission and it's great to see. Mane seems to be the main goal scorer now whereas Salah is becoming more of a creator. It's a shame that Salah doesnt even have an assist to his name but has created the most big chances in the league this season.

Up until the goal, Bobby was really struggling but he did seem to get back into the game which is good to see.

Now here is the fundamental issue without VVD - we cannot defend against the high ball, and we need to find a way to combat this. A key part of why we were so successful over the last two years is because we could defend against all styles of play, in particular, the brute force, physical, aerial style (which was always our Achilles heel pre VVD). Without Fabinho in midfield, we lost that physical protection in the air in that area of the pitch and without Matip or VVD, we kept losing these battles in defence.

Gomez pretty much did everything right vs Sheff United and he is stepping up to the plate but he only won 6/13 aerial duels and this is something that we really need Matip for or we buy someone in January. Else we will struggle against the physical teams.

Final thought - VAR. What a mess. I used to be a big advocate for it because I felt video technology would help to reduce the number of errors. Unfortunately, I didn't factor in the clowns that would be using the technology.

Its just a complete and utter farce at this stage, and we got shafted yet again. What compounds the misery further is how we get contradicting stories from the Refs and the PL, saying they checked this, or they checked this and that etc etc. It's sheer incompetence. VAR in other countries seems to work a lot better so I don't know if this is just a PL issue and the English refs in general.

you also have to look at the Maguire challenge and how that wasn't given but yet Fabinho's was. Sick and tired of these BIG and ultimately WRONG decisions are being made constantly.

I said before VAR was introduced that I didn't think it could work because too many decisions in football are subjective. It can't take that away, it just shifts the decision elsewhere, and takes longer to come to it.
On areas that are clear cut - like offside - it still can't work because the technology is nowhere near advanced enough to judge the fine lines required.
As I said recently, imo it's a failed experiment, but no doubt its proponents will make us have it anyway.
As for foreign leagues, I don't watch enough to judge myself - but I've seen lots of fans from other countries complain online that it's just as bad for them.
It's sucked the life out of all the exciting incidents - the very thing that football is about.
    Truly dreadful.

Football certainly is objective and there will be decisions that will always be questionable. But the ones that we have seen in recent weeks where it's clear and simple but VAR and the idiotic refs refuse to make the correct call is what really irks me.

If there is one good thing about VAR, is that it really has highlighted how incompetent and corrupt refs really are. I used to have sympathy for them but not anymore.

You see, I have always had a certain amount of sympathy for the ref on the pitch - he can't see everything, and there are so many cheats amongst the players that are out to con him anyway. It's easy to criticise with the benefit of several replays from different angles but the ref only gets one go.
Then along comes VAR to try and address that issue, but for all the reasons we've already gone over it's just a mess.
I'd scrap it, go back to the old way, but have continued scrutiny and assessment of the performance of match officials by an expert but independent panel to improve them without the cosy club atmosphere that seems to prevail atm.
No doubt refereeing standards need improvement, but VAR brings in more problems than it solves imo.
