I'm not his biggest fan, and his limitations are pretty plain to see. But at this level he's probably par for the competition and level Enob clearly is prepared to fund us at. I'm just not a fan of slagging him off for the sake of it, as unfair criticism just undermines the genuine criticism when it really is due. We played well enough to win today and the tactical side of things gave us a platform from which to do that on this occasion, so I'm not going to pinpoint the manager as a reason for the loss. I have question marks over him but I'm not just going to sling mud cos we were ****e last season - he's got a chance to to redeem himself ( very lucky boy) and as a city fan I hope he does, cos that will be better for us than him not. Yes, Fleetwood exploited the space behind Elder but the last 2 games we've stood up to it albeit against lesser opposition. Same thing happening twice though might be more of a cause for concern and demand more attention. Guess we can only wait and see.
Maybe The Allams should ask Ken Wagstaff to come to the ground and bring his boots. He would maybe do better than magginis or eaves. Maybe Peter Crouch want a kick about!!!
Magennis is effective enough at this level with his back to goal. Eaves still looks off the pace after a succession of injuries. Both have it within them to do a job in L1 though as past records indicate. I think we'll see a different Eaves once he gets his sharpness back - if he can get a run of games.
Problem for the Allam family is that if City gain promotion they do not have a championship manager or a team unless with heavy investment which they have indicated they are not prepared to do will be uncompetitive.
They'd need to put some championship experience in with the youth definitely. It's possible to do it on a budget, but there'd need to be flexibility in managerial approach to suit the characteristics of whichever players we had. There's a lot of promising youth here, who have the potential to play second tier or above with the right development, though you need senior pros alongside to bring them on. Our intended 'senior pros' recruited following PL relegation unfortunately were overpaid and by and large bad buys. How LD still has a job after the sheer level of wasted cash he spunked ill never know either.
Not only are the squad young and inexperienced but the manager is too. It's whether he has the ability to learn and grow or not that will define his career.
Corrected for ya, but it's something we all know. Agree about Fleetwood - taking Batty off for Meyer and practically conceeding the midfield was unforgiveable but not today. .... Or indeed the other 6 games he won to take us top.
With one of the best squads in this league and against inferior squads how difficult would this be? Against promotion contenders he has lost 2 out of 2
No team is going to go through this league unbeaten, and unlike the championship and PL you can afford to lose a few and still be in the mix. And its a more even league due to the salary cap. No one is going to run away with it. That's a thing of the past. We played well enough today. Only Fleetwood we deserved to be beaten.
We have as good a chance as anyone for promotion based on the first 8 games. Dunno if he can keep us up though. Would depend on the backing he got from Enob, and whether he has learned his lesson from last season.
There's a few spending to salary cap as we are, and we're doing as well as anyone so far. We haven't got by far the best squad in the league. We've got a promising inexperienced squad with an average age of about 23.
Spot on - we should have won today, we didn't have a strikers arsehole, that's why we lost. That's how football goes, that's why we love it - the best team doesn't always win.
Well, that's the big question over Grunt McCant isn't it? Can he learn his lessons.? *edit Oh, Darnborough? You tell me which of his parachute signings offered genuine value for money on the pitch and a resale price in the greater scheme of things and you'll have your answer. Stewart - nope Irvine - nope Henricksen - nope Toral - nope Lichaj - close but no cigar. Campbell - left for nowt Dicko - nope Milinkovic - nope. Kingsley - hahahaha!! I can't think of any.
You support City. Who made you a Johnny Bigbollocks? Today we shaded it performance-wise against a well matched squad. Lost due to rub of the green, not any major weakness. That's football. But if you're an amoeba who can only see light and dark then that's your problem not mine.
