We couldn't get the ball. Battering them is putting the ball in the net. Hitting the post and crossing the ball aimlessly into the box for our centre forwards to miss/foul their defender isn't battering them. It's poor. We need to stop launching the ball forward as well, we don't want to be a long ball team and today too many of the long balls were just crap. We have players like Honeyman and Docherty who are suited to having the ball at feet, there's no need to constantly batter the ball downfield, it's too predictable and gives the opposition the ball time and time again.
Wilks didn't work through the middle against Fleetwood, ball sticks more with magennis who got another assist today. Wilks and magennis together in the current positions is working.
It's OK criticise the team when justified and after that 2nd half performance its deserved. Don't defend what doesn't deserve defending.
Mayer never actually made it onto the pitch. Which just about sums it up. He's not the be all and end all, but he gets up and down the line and he takes people on, he's much better suited to playing wide than Wilks is, who (again) should be playing through the middle.
our passing in the final third is woeful - not sure I would ever bring Eaves on - Wilks needs to play in the middle and McCann needs to **** off - sorted
The problem is, McCann refuses to learn and adapt to his mistakes, so we keep making the same ****ing ones over and over. His tactics have the feel of someone trying to rush through a game of FIFA or Football Manager, just quickly doing like for like subs at random times regardless of the scoreline, just to show that he's actually paying attention. This sort of result will repeat itself several times this season if he does not ****ing learn.
I've seen a few posts about Mayer coming on at 89 mins. Either he didn't or I blinked for a long time.
I just don't think Magennis does enough vis a vie the entire game. It's handy that he pops up with a header or an assist now and again, but he doesn't close players down from the front and he doesn't get about the pitch enough when we aren't in possession. Two or three times today, he completely misjudged a decent enough ball and it went over his head. I get why you need a target man, but a lone target man doesn't seem to be working and once Peterborough worked out what we were up to, he was just nullified.
Eaves is the exact same as Magennis, the ball sticks to him, but after that there's nothing else. He fouls his man too often too.
Disappointing result, thought at times our build up play was very good but that final ball let us down, we hit the post they then get a deflected goal, fine margins. Overall didnt deserve to lose that but that's how it goes sometimes. Thought Docherty and then Eaves had scored but when on top we have take chances.
I disagree that we were beaten tactically. They had 2 shots and scored twice, and we created far more than them today. Its a smash and grab on their part and that happens sometimes in football.
I think we're crying out for a formation with an attacking midfielder in it, somebody to play the Number 10 role. Honeyman had the joint most assists in the league before today, so get him in that AM position, give him licence to roam. 4-4-1-1 would work a treat: Ingram Manny Burke Greaves/De Wijs Fleming (drop Elder, he's not having a good time of it at the moment). Mayer/Adelekun Smallwood Docherty KLP Honeyman Wilks Then you've got two banks of four so that the full backs get more protection and in possession the wingers can push on into a 4-2-3-1. please log in to view this image
Disagree sorry.. this happens far too many times for it to be a one off .. the opposing managers counter our play and we come out on the end of a defeat. As mentioned earlier do you think if Adkins had been in charge we would have lost that game after leading at half time ?
