Well I put him up at 10s on yesterday's thread so I am Maximus in the Cheltenham bumper. At first glance it looks a strong heat with 6 previous winners but none of their form looks really exceptional and you've got to like an Authorised gelding closely related to a number of winners on the flat. And of course he is in the magic hands of Lieutenant Henderson
Plantagenet for me in the 5.00 at Cheltenham, 2nd in this last year and but for a bad mistake at the 2nd last could have won.

Our fella Top Decision had a scan today and unfortunately he has sustained a minor injury to his tendon so is off to see a rehabilitation specialist which is obviously not great news. I think a few on here wanted to hear the latest. We want to do what is best for the horse and it is anticipated that he will return to the racecourse January/February time all being well.
Sorry to hear this news Captain. On the positive side good that it is a minor injury looking forward to him getting back on the racecourse after the rehab. Best of luck mate.
I've had an ew play on Jacks A Legend in this. 66/1. Huge price. Fitness the BIG question mark over it but IF i assume its good to go then i don't think its unreasonable to expect this one to be fighting it out for a place at the finish.

I've put a review of Project Mars and Stratford on the blog, but also a few selections in the handicaps today - 3:15 - Philip Hobbs has had three runners in this race in the last five years, with one winner, one second and an unplaced effort. Amazingly in 2016 he managed to get the forecast with Golden Doyen beating For Good Measure into second. He has a good record in all of the qualifiers too, havign a 15% strike rate with 6 winners from 40 since 2015 Today he runs Flinck who is interesting given his good seasonal reappearance at Chepstow (Video) where he stayed on very takingly from the last hurdle (usual two out) over a trip that looked too short for him. Given that run, it looks like today is the plan for him and that along with the good stable form in this race makes him a very interesting bet at 15/2. Given each way terms are for the first five, I think that is generous enough as a back up for the win bet. 3:50 - This is the sort of race that makes Cheltenham what it is, a competitive handicap chase over a staying trip where jumping is going to be tested as is stamina. Cogry is a standing dish in this race, as is West Approach. Frodon is a cult hero and tops the handicap, but to me the field has a couple of unexposed sorts who could well get into the finish. Manofthemountain is one of them, but it is Cloth Cap that gets the selection. Cloth Cap is a horse that has always shown plenty of class and last season he never raced on ground that I think is his optimum, and therefore getting that ground today means that he could be the one that is best handicapped. I think they will go hard enough here and he should be able to sit behind the pace in a prominent position and hopefully can hit the front at the last.13/2 looks very fair. 5:00 - Fergal O'Brien won this race last year when Liam Harrison took Petite Power to victory. Liam rode Project Mars for us last week and he is an excellent young jockey. This year the Fergal O'Brien horse is Call Me Vic and has the assistance of Albi Tufnell in the saddle. I hope the old boy does well for Albi who rides him at home and hopefully its another opportunity for a young lad associated with the yard to ride a good race at Cheltenham. I however think Boughtbeforelunch is the one to be with here. He is ridden by the in form Jack Savage (2 from 2 for NTD in recent weeks) and his form ties in well with Ballymalin from their encounter at Worcester last year. On that form he looks very well handicapped, and whilst he was disappointing on his reappearance he has generally been consistent over fences and that should return today. I have backed him at 10/1 each way with 3 places as the place terms.
Morning all...bets today: Cheltenham 2.05pm Allmankind 15/8 win. Fascinating to see how he goes today. Doncaster 2.20pm Came from the Dark 4/1 win Cheltenham 3.50pm Cogry 13/2 each way 4 places. Very competitive race with some familiar names in the line up. The Emma Lavelle runner is interesting but they are predicting heavy downpours this afternoon and I think this is a negative for him. I think Cogry will be primed for this and any downpours will be fine for him. Has run in this race 3 times, winning it and placing in it twice. With Frodon running he runs off 10 stone 4 and I think that will be a big help. Good luck all!

A couple of good chances today: 3.15 Cheltenham Kansas City Chief . Best price 20/1 Tobefair is a good yardstick and will run his race, but the selection has a good each way chance. He stays three miles well and will welcome any rain today. At this years Cheltenham Festival, he finished a good sixth behind Sire De Berlais in the Pertemps Final, getting 19lbs. The latter gave Tobefair 9lbs and a narrow beating last year so, at today’s weights, Tobefair may be pushed to give 26lbs to my selection. 4.10 Newbury Litigator. Best Price 15/2 This ex French import ran a sound first race in Britain when sixth, beaten only 4 lengths, over 9 furlongs, behind Lady Wannabe In a hot Group 3 contest, Back up in trip, he should go very close.
