For someone with those layoffs Aguero has been a machine inbetween not an excuse in terms of management, but in terms of results.... Greez
it has to be more that that since they spent over a £100m this window & off top of my head Stones £50m Walker £50m can't remember these Laporte Cancelo Mendy Danilo and i'm sure there are others possibly Otamendi , Mangala
It's no excuse for results, they've spent a lot of money accumulating a big squad, they should be able to cope with injuries and still get desired results. Should certainly get better results than they do
"yeah, shtupid ****ty, how can they say not having their best defender made them easier to score against, HARRUMPH! I say"
Exactly. And people forget that we also had a lot of injuries. Allison, Matip, Gomez, Robbo, Ox, Hendo, Naby, Fabinho and I think Salah as well. We consistently had a lot of injuries throughout the season and we have a small squad as well.
If we lost VVD and Mane for significant chunks of last season, the race would have been much closer I reckon. Anyway, I don't think City will be as good as the season before last, neither will we be as good as last season. Empty stadiums has also added a new dynamic, so it's going to be a weird season either way
It probably would have been because we had no adequate back ups - but we're comparing to a team who have spent massively over the years on all areas of their team. They literally have £50m players on their bench who can hardly get a game. The fact that they were unable to cover for Aguero and Laporte isn't down to lack of bodies - it's down to poor recruitment.
I'm not comparing the spending or squad depth. Just saying that not having Aguero and Laporte with the squad they had was a big loss, just because it was expensive doesn't mean it was good enough obviously. Their defence just is not that good at all, and losing Laporte was a massive loss for them and the gap before the coof outbreak proved that. I don't even think KDB was a massive loss for them, but having to play a 34 year old midfielder at CB, losing his worth in midfield and having no legs going backwards, was a big issue. We I believe, are better equipped for that type of change. (which was the larger context to this line of discussion). We have a good midfield without Fab in it, and with Thiago we have an even better situation (please dont be out long Thiago!)
Losing both Laporte and Aguero was a big loss but they should have been able to have dealt with it by having quality back ups given then spent so much. As I say, that's down to poor recruitment.
Well, just one unbeaten team left. the Merseyside muggers, the thugs in royal blue. A team so dirty Norman hunter wouldn’t be able to watch em
always a tough game away to Southampton, said that before, say it again. with our injury list from that brutal opening 2 minutes on Saturday we will be struggling.
Jack Wilshere on trying to get a new club https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/54664335 "People forget I am 28. Everyone thinks I am 30 or 31" 28 with the body of a 50yr old. Nobody wants a player who is going to spend 2/3s of the season on the injury list.
You mean Rodrigues who ancelotti has come out and said he now might be fit for the game.. 24 hours after saying he was injured?
Not mentioning James participating in the remaining 80+ minutes and subsequent two training sessions since the supposed tackle by VVD
I do like Don Carlo but I didn't appreciate the way he brought VVD's name up when talking about this phantom injury to James. It seemed like it was a bit of point scoring. Paul Joyce actually called him out on it, which I thought was brilliant.
