Anyone remember ringing the City scoreline service in early 70’s?
Maybe the game wasn’t on the radio but in our near promotion season of 1971 as results had gone seriously pear shaped, I rang up only to be given the damming score of Luton 3 (Supermac hat trick) City 1 - the final game of the season.<doh>

I just used to wait for the Football Echo (the pink 'un") to be dropped off at Bridgend Bus station.

There was a zebra crossing (another old term <laugh>) right by the newspaper stand. I actually got booked for stopping inside the studs in the road (remember those?) getting out of my car for 20 seconds to pick up the paper.

The bastard copper jumped out in the road in front of me to stop be driving off before telling me I'd be reported for the offence.........<laugh>

    Got fined 15 quid. <doh>

We used to get a lad on a paper round delivering the football echo up the valleys.

The Pink was an institution, part and parcel of a Saturday.

Football Argus in Newport. Used to be on a stand by the station as I got off the train from Cardiff.

Back on the City TV coverage of the game.

Did anyone else subscribe and watch it? If so, did anyone understand a word of what the guest commentator Greg Cunningham said?

Red button for me. Had to turn the volume down as the coaching staff’s yelling was piercing.
Quality of picture suspect and it looked so distant.
Back to Laurel & Hardy tomorrow <doh>

Yes I watched it. Let's say he grew into the game and a current player's insight was good value.

Particularly his views on Mr. Hooper. Only played in one game with him in charge. 2 yellows in a minute and the only red of his career!!! He declined to make further comment as didn't want to be banned as well as injured.

Don't get me wrong, I like the Irish brogue in general and Cunningham in particular, but got a bit frustrated translating what he said into English.....<laugh>

You're quite right about the insight that a current City player brings to the commentary though - actually very informative. Problem was you needed half a dozen Guinesses to get the gist of what he was saying - Peroni wouldn't do it......<laugh>.

You would have been fine with Macheda then. :emoticon-0140-rofl:

    Wasn't he JayRede's favourite?

No, I don't think it was Jay who kept extolling the virtues of Macheda.

I remember him as Stevie - can't think of his proper handle on here back then. He was a great poster but sadly drifted off with other things going on in his life.

Bluey - do you remember him and can you cast any further light on that poster's name?

I thought it was Jay. Don't recall a Steve or Stevie. Would need to track back 5 or 6 years to find him. Think I'll wash hair instead.

I can remember him always going to games with his wife who was also supporter. Wish I could remember his handle but it definitely had "steve" in it somewhere.

He was regular on here for a few years and a very good poster, but mentioned one day he'd got a bit disillusioned during the Slade era.

The last thing I can remember him posting was that he was taking a raincheck on the forum for a while and he's not popped back since then (as far as I know anyway).

Just remembered it Bluey!!! - I don't know where that came from. <doh>

He was "Stevoldinho" - at least I think that's how he spelt it.
