Town and Country club was probably my favourite venue. Have to disagree about the RAH though, I know they've put those mushrooms in the roof space, but for me that vastly improves the acoustics in there, which are good anyway. That said, you can't beat a small, low ceiling, sweaty venue where you're up close to the band. Loads of the Student union venues in London have got that vibe. I saw a group called Daisy Chainsaw and Sheep on Drugs at the ULU once, it was a mental gig. Crowdsurfing, crazy mosh pit, even saw a dustbin lid flying around in the crowd at one point.
We were just a local Southampton band called Berlin. (Had to change the name when that other lot turned up). Back then there were a number of decent live music pubs, but not now unfortunately.
