https://www.skysports.com/football/...er-united-in-talks-for-fifa-backed-tournament More talks of a European League that would replace the Champions League and presumably work in conjunction with existing national leagues.
In my view I think they should either f*ck off and start this new league, and no longer compete in the English leagues or remain as is. You can't just have the best if both worlds - it wouldn't be fair that other clubs aren't allowed to enter the league. At least with the champions league it is different teams each season based on sporting merit.
Been predicting something like this for a few years and I think it's a case of not if but when it will come to fruition. I think it will be the best thing to happen to English football for years and will help to make the PL more exciting, competitive and even and will not devalue it in any way IMO. There would have to be another European competition for the PL teams to qualify for, I guess that would be a continuation of the Europa League or some other format.
Think you misunderstand it - these teams would remain in the premier league. So it would be way less competitive as the "top 5/6" would just have an extra £100m+ to spend each year.
Oh yes, they should play no part in English football if they sign up for that, a few years down the line they won't even be missed.
So they are planning to make it a closed shop with the same teams each season?...that's so anti competitive and bad for the sport.
How the hell would they fit in a minimum of "30 matches" alongside the 38 PL and cup matches? "They added that the European Premier League was likely to feature either 16 or 18 teams - meaning a likely minimum of 30 matches for each club, based on a format of round-robin home and away fixtures - although that is said to be among the details being finalised ahead of a formal announcement."
Exactly that - absolute disgrace. I think if this happens the premier league need to issue an ultimatum: choose between playing in the premier league or the European league - you can't do both. Also amusing they are always complaining of fixture congestion and now they want to sign up to another 30 games.
With the money they will recieve, they could afford to have two separate squads, the whole thing stinks. Also what prestige would there be in winning the domestic league for the fans and the clubs in the European league, it would be a poor second for them.
If they really are looking at this then I would rather they just went the whole hog and left the rest of us to it. Have their European League without promotion or relegation, entirely separate of the domestic leagues and UEFA competitions - closed shop - franchised if they want! If they go, they go. Those left behind carry on with the setups as they are. I believe the rest of us would ultimately be better off. We would have the fan bases, the rivalry intact, full stadiums, loyalty and a return to competition, whereby the fans have renewed hope of success and achievement ... not just being there to make up the numbers. We'd become the college football to their NFL. They'd have the international brands, the money, the hype and be shown on TV all round the World - but ... they'd be bland, boring and lacking in any sense of being. They probably would end up with franchises and moving wherever the money takes them. London Red Devils anyone?
Man Utd Liverpool Chelsea Man city Spurs Arsenal - R.madrid Barcelona A.madrid Sevilla - B.munich Dortmund Leipzig - Juventus Inter AC Milan Napoli Lazio Roma - PSG Lyon Marseille Those are the teams I'd guess, who decides who's worthy though? Take Italy for example the team who misses out will just get picked clean of their star players effectively ****ing the club up for a number of years due to players wanting to play in the " super league".
Only 5 English teams apparently so probably be smaller than that. Plus I don't know that the German clubs would do it if their fans didn't approve - Germany is one of the few leagues in the world that clubs genuinely care about the fans.
True, as some else already said they either **** off completely and leave the rest of us to it , or the whole idea is category A bullshit!
Don't think it's suggesting they'll stay in the domestic system is it? Think it's funny that they're adopting the yank style of a mini tournament at the end where the team who finishes top might not win it. Hilariously tragic. Don't think it'll happen but would love it to, as SA says it'd be the best thing to happen to the English game in decades.
Yep, if you have to bet then next time make sure the bloke in your avatar is the subject of it Libs...
