Been watching lots of random **** lately, including some footy. Also Queen at the Hammersmith from years ago

Just got me thinking, just what is a good venue?

    Indoor/ outdoor?

Does going to a gig beat going to a footy game?

Best Venue I've ever been to is the Royal Albert Hall.
The building is magnificent and the acoustics are sublime. It's a perfect piece of architectural engineering.

    +1 for Brixton academy

Saw loads of bands there in the 90's

Another brilliant, small and intimate venue which showcased loads of bands back then was the ULU University of London near Goodge St.

    +2 for Brixton Academy.

Best venues of my youth are The Manchester Apollo, the Free Trade Hall, The Boardwalk and the International 2, saw some absolute legendary bands there. Blackburn St Georges hall once or twice as well.

Of big venues, GMex was good when the like of Happy Monday and James were playing there during Madchester days.

Utter ****e venues of note; Wembley Arena, Cardiff International 'arena' and Manchester MEN Arena.

Saw Morrissey at Wembley Arena the night after we'd been to Brighton to watch him at the excellent Brighton Dome. Was all a bit **** sound and viewing wise.

Following night, Brixton Academy and it ****ing brilliant.

Cardiff Arena is god awful! Up there with Southampton Guildhall as the worst venue I’ve been to.

    Completely agree, it's ****ing atrocious.

Have had some proper decent bans performances ruined by having to watch them there.

Radiohead, Arctic Monkeys, Kings of Leon, Morrissey, Pixies, Kasabian.

Brilliant bands in a gash venue. They can't even serve beer quick enough for **** sake.

    Big arenas are ****.

Can't beat the Brixton Academies, Manchester Ritz and Appollo, Notts Rock Cities of this world.

Used to go to a club called Megatripolis in Shoreditch. Was a mixture of dance/trance and lectures and talks about psychedelics. Odd combo but it worked.

Saw Terrance McKenna speak there back in around 92/93
