I like the suggestion that the Liverpool crowds are just putting 2 fingers up...what at? The virus?

Lockdowns or a free for all seem to be the 2 choices to many people. The answer is a half way house. Open what can be opened...and then everybody behave sensibly. Sadly that seems beyond some people.

I heard that on the news yesterday. Terrible. I wouldn’t want to be anyone of the Liverpudlians done for flaunting Covid laws and end up in front of him.

Hopefully it’s not the US as Trump will sell to the highest bidder for profit.
I believe the government ordered 30m of Oxfords vaccine to be ready for this September.

Lets hope the intensive trials give a number of effective vaccines and they are widely available.
    Info from BBC
"Trials of the Oxford vaccine show it can trigger an immune response, and a deal has been signed with AstraZeneca to supply 100 million doses in the UK alone."
    from https://www.bbc.com/news/health-51665497
Also "A Covid vaccine could be given to some of the most vulnerable people "this side of Christmas", according to the chairwoman (Kate Bingham) of the UK Vaccine Taskforce. But limited supplies would mean the government would have to decide who should get it, and when."
    from https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-scotland-54573288

Where did you read that St Bad? Is it safe "to declare it safe and grab the first batches"? The Russians have released vaccines without completing Phase 3 clinical trials much to the concern of scientific bodies.

Possible good news, but no one knows how long immunity lasts....whether produced as a response to covid exposure or by a natural response to a vaccine. If safe, it is worth distributing anyway as all that will be lost is money....but efficacy can only be tested by exposing vaccinated and unvaccinated people to Covid.

Wayne Rooney angry (with every right to be) after a friend called round who had been advised to take a Covid test after exposure (and later tested positive), but didn't tell him. Wayne subsequently played in a match....now both teams and the Rooney family have to be tested. Guess that's one friendship over...how can anyone be that stupid and careless.

In the press, this morning (Mirror).
Each country needs to trial it, but should only declare it safe when they have followed due diligence and their usual procedures associated with the introduction of new drugs.
It shouldn’t be a case of a country just jumping in, but I wouldn’t put it past someone like Trump to try and shorten their test procedure.

Those in the US that follow Trump's advice will suffer the consequences of doing so. There's an increasing number of crackpot antivax sites to along with the quack remedies on offer.
The European Medicines Agency rolling updates.

Here’s an interesting view on lockdown which, IMO, has some merit, but still puts some people at risk.

The issue is this only focuses on deaths and not long term health impacts on the under 40s. Am I desperate to go back to the old way of living as I am under 40, no.

It is also almost impossible to completely isolate the elderly who would still need contact. The reason Italy was hit so badly was intergenerational families living together. The poorest are hit hardest here.

The other issue is that it assumes we can go back to normal. I question if this is possible. The World is under strain; we have had MERS, SARS, Covid etc. in a short space of time. We need to improve our environmental credentials and priorities before we are unfortunate enough to generate a virus as deadly as SARS but as contagious as Covid.

This has been one of the things I have been trying to say. A blanket catch all, when it affects a far smaller % could have been/could still be a better way. Would this also allow for the NHS to keep open other vital forms of healthcare, for cancers, heart issues etc?
