... could be significant. We should be beating Crewe at home, no disrespect, which would make Saturday the first 'big weekend' of the season. We could end the week in a very good position, after two homes matches and a game in hand. Ipswich, Portsmouth and Peterborough have two away this week so this is a good chance to show some real intent. Lincoln v Ipswich Hull v Peterborough Sunderland v Portsmouth Current Top 5 Ipswich 16 Hull 15 Lincoln 13 Peterborough 12 Sunderland 11
It’s going to be an interesting weekend, 2 wins in a week for us would do nicely and hopefully the other teams drop points
Thing about the “home/away” is I’m not sure how much it matters without the fans. From the atmospheric at some Hanes last season it might be better for some players!!
We should defo be taking advantage of the fixtures this coming week and the week after. I'll be very disappointed if we don't take at least 10 points from the next 4 matches. Finish October on a high
I'd say the advantages lie in the geographical. It's daft that Portsmouth have to travel the length of the country for a Tuesday night game ... ... f**k them
we could have done without the injury problems messing up the team, and it looks like the lad from Wolves will have to slot straight in, but confidence will be high after yesterday, so fingers crossed we keep it up. big week.
As someone pointed out yesterday Flanagan is available for this game. I think the lad from Wolves will be on the bench.
Fortunately the loan signing from Wolves, Sanders on, can play right/centre back and is easily good enough for this league.
That's the thing, although we don't have the advantage of the crowd, it means less travelling and our players have a preparation that is more usual to them. It's an early observation but up to now, in my opinion, we seem to be getting more decisions than in the past, maybe referees would be feel more pressure not to give us decisions when we have a large backing. I know it balances out but I would say the penalty at home to Peterborough and the one Swindon didn't get were two decisions that went our way. Long may it continue.
Digressing, but as it is about L1 it appears that MK Dons attempted to sign Will Grigg earlier this week, according to the Gillingham chairman. Cannot see why the gills chairman would say that without some knowledge about it.
Good points mate. I also believe that, after the apology we received regarding referees, they've been warned. Last season was shameful at times.
Conceded and scored very few yeah? We've really got to start clicking and putting a few goals in. If we want to go top two, convincingly.
Six points from next two games would be great, but four wouldn't be a disaster and would mean we are still unbeaten..
Only one goal conceded in the league so far. Keep the clean sheets coming and we'll be flying. On a bit of a side note, I think its interesting comparing this season with last. Lincoln off to an absolute flyer - they did the same last year and tailed off. Portsmouth off to a slow start - they did the same last year then picked up later on. Also, some of the decent teams from last year have got off to poor starts and we've already played them - Oxford for example. I thought we did well to beat them. Perhaps they're not as strong as last season, or perhaps we're much better than we were and have learned to play against teams like them, Charlton and Peterborough.
I don't think any of these teams are anything to worry about tbh What happens, imo, is that a team has a few good results, gains momentum and forgets how poor they are ... ... that's what happened to Wycombe, last season, but they're actually shyte.
From what I've seen this season I think the lack of crowds is actually helping us. Last two seasons we've seen very poor teams play out of their skins against us in front of big crowds at the SOL and cup tie atmosphere at away games. All that's gone the playing field is level and despite what a lot of people think we do have a much better squad of players. Just need to get our bloody forwards scoring. How much is a Josh Maja worth now.
