    Morning all...3 bets today:

Ascot 2.30pm Mehdaayih 8/1 each way
Ascot 3.40pm Addeybb 10/1 each way

As Paddy Power are giving away a free £5 bet in the first race at Ascot I have backed Search for a song 5/1 win on the off chance it handles the ground and Stradivarius has an off day.

    Good luck all!:emoticon-0167-beer:

I took a chance on Broome at a big price. Stradivarius had his lowest ever finishing position in the Arc when 7th and that is hardly an ideal preparation. In addition he has run more times at 12F than any other distance this season, so it seems they have tried to reinvent the horse at the age of six. He came into this contest last season on a winning run of 10 but went down narrowly to Kew Gardens and although he is a tough battler his Arc run was a big disappointment in terms of the style of the defeat, never really being involved at all.

Broome was once considered Aidan O'Brien's leading Derby horse in the season where Anthony Van Dyck won the Epsom Classic. He went on to finish 4th there before a poor effort in the Irish version, which saw him finished for the season. As a 2YO he was a bit mediocre but that often happens before horses come on the following year upped in trip. It was a demolition job on soft ground in the Ballysax that saw Broome advertise himself as a contender to step up when getting a stronger test of stamina. His return in the Coronation Cup was a huge ask on fast ground against Ghaiyyath and he has a shade over 4 lengths to find with Stradivarius, who was 3rd that day. Stradivarius gets his trip today but Broome was entitled to need that run and although the absence since is a but of a question mark it at least lessens the chance of the old bounce on the quick second start after a lay-off.

A bit of a shot in the dark but Broome is at least unexposed in general and particularly as a stayer. He should be fine on the ground so at 14/1 he was a small play and a cover in a forecast behind Stradivarius. Search For A Song is a player but the price reflects that fact.

    1.20 Ascot Broome 14/1 and Stradivarius/Broome SF

Sovereign ew for value, but think Stradivarius will win this.
Dream Of Dreams, upped his level this year, does not seem to like Ascot this time of year but never been in this form.
    Even So or Mehdaayih
    Palace Pier
    wins how he likes.
Mishriff, his runs have been eyecatching to me in France. 3yo improving colt getting 1lb off Magical, I will have that.
Raeeq, improving and well in or Tempus who will love the ground.

Duffle Coat’s Form gets tested today as Crassus (finished 2nd to DC on debut) runs in the juvenile hurdle at Ballinrobe and I like his chances against a couple of Newcomers from powerhouse yards.

Interfered with and unseated rider at the first hurdle. Going to be one of those days I fear.

    Surely retirement for Stradivarius now?

Just a tired run after the Arc in unsuitable ground I think from Strad.

Who would have thought Broome would be half a length behind Stradivarius and been beaten more than 60 lengths. Jesus what a farce.

Broome never went a yard and looks a bust. I had backed Trueshan with some confidence in the Ebor but he was never involved that day but up he pops and routs his field in the Champion. Crazy stuff.

I will stay with Starman as he did me a favour last time and is unbeaten and unexposed. He needs to find plenty but he has scope and beat Dakota Gold despite missing the break last time. Dream Of Dreams made a bit hard work of it last time and flopped in this last year, so he's passed over this time.

    1.55 Ascot Starman 17/2

Talk about the start of a race being critical - Glen Shiel out of the stalls like a bolt of lightning and fair play, got back up again once headed. Congratulations Hollie Doyle, brilliant stuff.

They have always been weary running Stradivarius on soft going until he won on soft this season. Maybe they got bit carried away.. but it was clear today he didn't get going on the holding ground and just got stuck in it..
