Southgate seems to be a good man manager and has been the first England manager in years to develop a good culture within the england set up - but tactically he looks like he has won a f*cking competition to be there. Useless.
I don't understand the logic of bringing off AMN. If James (or Walker) are a better option on the left side, why didn't they start there? It's not like we're short on RBs!! (I don't think they are better options, btw. But I'm not the guy who has just subbed AMN off.)
Can't think why there is no threat from the left flank... almost as if we are playing a right back at left back and and right footed striker left wing.
180 minutes. 0 goals against Denmark. Manager who refuses to drop players or change tactics. Southgate got lucky in 2018 with a kind run to the semi finals. He's a terrible coach.
Well, I feel for England as the penalty was soft and Maguire's poor touch and sending off was the real issue. Referee was abysmal and you have to question Southgate's tactics and selection: no left backs, bringing on Sancho to play long balls, no Grealish etc.
I remember loads wanting us to sign him when he was at Hull. They came to us at the end of the season when we all new Puel was on his way and we drew about 110 games in a row at home 0-0. Maguire kept dribbling the ball out from the back against us when all the players were filled with apathy. I said then I didn’t rate him. He’s bang average.
Not sure why but the whole discipline thing with this group is a mess. Players need to be reminded of their responsibility in much stronger terms it seems. Perhaps I'm old fashioned, but some of the difficulties theses players bring upon themselves strike me as a sign of over indulgence and a sense of entitlement which they don't deserve.
Problem I find with Maguire is that his mannerisms remind me of an old boss. He was crap at football too.
The referee was terrible. Wasn't a pen and missed so many obvious Denmark yellows which would have brought the game under control from a referee's point of view. But England lost the plot in the last 10/15 mins. Henderson is captain for Liverpool and a leader in the England camp. Really shouldn't be getting booked for dissent. Possibly contributed to James getting a red after the final whistle.
One good piece of news (for me anyway) Havant & Waterlooville into the hat for the FA Cup after beating Chatham 4-1. I went yo see them play a few times back in the early 80’s, before I moved abroad. Hope they don’t get drawn vs Sholing!
