There is a strong argument that the FA and the EPL should do more to give a fairer ( more sympathetic ), distribution of wealth down the football pyramid...... so - it might seem that the proposals will address that point -- but - -it hasn't escaped me that the biggest benefit will still go to the 'Big Six' clubs...... and if the number of EPL clubs were to reduce to 14, each game would, on paper, becomes a ' big' match .... and surely a good enough reason for Sky & BT to charge a premium for a separate EPL channel ?

And, if we're going to cut the number of EPL clubs to 14, what's going to happen to the numbers in the EFL ? Will the 'big six' in the Championship look to secure fewer numbers in that division...... but
How long will it be before we see the demise of the EPL ??? ..... the real thin end of the wedge is -

How long before we'll have a European League - basically a season-long Champions League..... and in order to be able to afford a ticket for a game, you'll have to sell a vital organ.

Utterly disgraceful, don't even get me started on this idea. The Premier League have just reached a new low, in the destruction of football since 1992.

All because they were asked to stick their hand in their pocket. When you give to charity, you don't set a clause in a contract that for my £'s I expect you to do xyz for me.

The Premier League the absolute guttter of football. They spend absolute millions on one player, someone like Maguire £80Million, it's obscene. They've just proven everything bad I've said about them for decades is true, now you know why I despise them so much.

No club should demand more money. Especially the big 6. Ok they can earn it by finished higher up the league but not given it regardless of who they are. Again trying to stich up the smaller clubs by paying them off.

The loss of parachute payments, the reduction to 18 teams, all designed to stop any other teams from reaching the EPL.
Elitism has always been their dream, now they are using the pandemic as a tool to blackmail the EFL.

Having looked at the proposals a little more closely, I feel that there is a certain amount of merit in some aspects.

I may be cynical - but I don't think that Liverpool, Man Utd or any of the other EPL clubs have suddenly become ''charitable' -- and will be willing to give away 25% of the TV money to EFL clubs -- not without some sort of payback............ Could that be even more TV money (( just for the EPL )), from the TV companies as they may be allowed to charge extra for pay-per-view for games involving the so-called Big 6............ again, I wouldn't bet against this!

In my opinion, the root of the problem is the huge disparity regarding the division of TV money between the EPL and the scraps for the EFL..... whose clubs suffer through lack of crowd numbers - because of people choosing to pay for SKY / BT, instead of going to support their local ( EFL / National League side. ) It may be easy to be angry and upset at how SKY & BT are helping to ruin the finances of EFL clubs -- but - these TV companies are in business - to supply a demand for the 'greater' percentage of the public - not just fans of football --- and - let's be honest - how many of Gills fans have got SKY or BT or both ? -- I would guess quite a lot -- thus, we are also part of the problem......

...... a problem, the dynamics of which, are not being fully appreciated by the FA and EPL...... but we know that the FA couldn't care less about anything outside of the EPL.

Rick Parry is the Chief of the EFL, (( and, as such, is NOT part of the real FA morons whose policies are ruining the game -- new handball rule anybody ? )).. and I believe that Parry is saying some things that are correct -- inasmuch that the TV money must be more fairly distributed... The FA don't have to reduce the size of the EPL - - the FA needs to reduce the size of the TV money given to the EPL clubs -- or the amount which gets put into plain brown envelopes.. The FA can easily give 25% to the EFL and still have enough cash left for EPL clubs to use as toilet paper.................. It's time for the FA to do the decent, moral and correct thing........ but judging by their new handball rule, I 've got more chance of sexual favours from Charlize Theron before that happens.

From the article it appears it's not been ratified by either the Premier League or DCMS so unlikely this will happen. What's more concerning is Rick Parry publicly backing this plan may have put a spanner in the works for the actual negotiations with the PL. It also seems odd that the lead of the EFL would back plans to have one less opportunity for promotion into the top league without consulting the 72 clubs he represents.

There are already many interesting (and some poorly thought out) comments on the BBC web site.

Whether you like it or not (OK brb, just 'not'!) the PL or something like it is here to stay. In any form of sport there will be an elite level, and participants at that level will seek to maximise their income. As has been commented on, there are some sensible proposals, and I think it is pretty universally agreed that there needs to be a significantly greater share of PL income finding its way down the league ladder. Voting issues aside, which is hugely complicated, my main concerns would be

    1. The matter of parachute payments. I do think that the levels of parachute payments are too high at the moment, but players are unlikely to want to sign for PL clubs that might be at risk of getting relegated if their contract stipulates that their salary decreases by a significant amount if the club gets relegated. In order for clubs to survive in the PL they need to attract the best possible players on medium length (2-3 year) contracts, and deserve a level of short term financial security if they do get relegated.

    2. What measures will be put in place in EFL clubs to ensure that the increased income is put to 'proper' use - player development / better facilities / community work etc. etc. and not just put into the pockets of chairmen? Let's say £250m/yr is split 60/25/15 to Championship/L1/L2 - that would give a L1 club extra income of about £2.6m a year. Not a bad little earner for nothing. If clubs are going to be gifted extra income there should be at the very least a salary cap and a requirement for clubs to be run financially efficiently - I'll leave to the experts how that should be defined.

Reducing the EPL to just 18 teams, reforming the EFL structure, doing away with parachute payments, I think the whole thing is designed to stop promotion /relegation from the EPL.
Conspiracy theory maybe but look how this season has started, the big six not dominating the league, small upstart clubs in the top half dozen places, what would happen if one of the big 6 were to get relegated, better they just rig the system so it can't happen.

It is, they just want an elite league, which will lead to a European League where the likes of Liverpool, Man Utd, Barcelona and Real Madrid will operate a closed shop.

We all know they've already tried the move of forcing their B Teams on to us....oh hang on let's rename that to U21's. Bit like how they reorganised the wording charity, and morphed into sign here like a Wonga loan shark. Ask Blackpool how that worked out for them.

The only reason anyone would want to reduce number of teams in prem is so they can play far and away lucrative friendlies. They will not play less games

Well Project Big Poop or whatever it's called has been unanimously rejected by a Premier League shareholders vote this afternoon so it won't be happening. Acceptance has been made however that things do need to be restructured in terms of wealth distribution and a full strategic review will be undertaken.

In better news for us the Premier League clubs have agreed to make a rescue package for leagues one and two clubs. The offer will consist of grants and interest free loans totalling £77.2m. £27.2m has already been distributed and the further £50m will be made to clubs shortly. Looks like our immediate future has been saved.

No, I am not looking a gift horse in the mouth
Why is it a loan ? ---- which has to be repaid ?? that sounds like a debt
£50M divided between 48 clubs is a tiny bit more than £1 M each...... Whilst this is welcome - didn't Mr. Scally say the other week that we're losing £40.ooo a month.
Our £1 loan will be worth only 50 pence in the £ ......and - we'll STILL have all our current losses - and we'll have to repay the loan.... The debt for us ( and other clubs ), will not disappear.
The 'handout' is an insult - when it is compared to the huge revenue that the EPL get from TV - the scheduling of which goes a long way to make sure that TV 'customers' are deterred from attending matches in L1 and L2........

...Just to put things into context - parachute payments to just one club ( as a reward for relegation ) is far more than the £50 Million loan shared between 48 clubs --- and the parachute payments are proper 'handouts' - not a debt ( I refuse to call it a loan ) -which has to be repaid.

....... sorry - did I say handout -- implying that it might be a gift --------- it's not a handout - it's a bloody loan -- the loan has to be repaid --- from what ?? it's not as if we'll get any revenue from matchday fans --- not until at least August 2021....perhaps we could grow some hay on the pithc during next summer -- then we'll be able to feed the gift horse.

Will these interest free loans require collateral, 48 teams bought for £50m, sounds like a bargain to me.

At best it might just cover our loses but that's it, plus it just puts us in debt surely, as you are suggesting. I certainly wouldn't want to be owning the club at this time.

If I'm understanding it right, the loan will be repaid via deductions from PL payments to the league over x period of time. I think it's made up of grants and loans. So let's say forsake of argument, Hull and Sunderland only need loans to tie them over, then the pecentage of grant would be to a smaller pot.

EFL rejected the new offer from the PL also as it had strings attached, wasn't actually the amount that was claimed and nor did it help the Championship clubs.
