All that constantly kicking up a fuss about their owner has achieved is to make them a laughing stock. What Donald and Ashley both want is money and if their prices aren't met they aren't going anywhere, although Covid may well be what forces out Donno.
Or will vote for the big picture proposal to suit his next venture with a traditionally lower league club that would benefit from boost in TV money
I am however pretty worried that this big picture stuff is going to give him false hope he can hang on another 7 months and see if we get promoted and try again next summer if not, massively disrupting us for another season again.
Efl don't get to vote, its the Premier league clubs that vote on this which has no chance of getting through
The longer it drags on the more likely that this is the case. Lets see what is said once the window closes. If it is the case I expect he will pop his head out of his arse to say the "talks" have come to nothing so we are stuck with him but that he is fully behind the club and has given the club the best budget in the league to push for promotion. Then the fans calm down until December when leaks are made there is another group interested in a takeover so nothing is spent in January either. All the while Donald is sat in his bunker with his fingers crossed hoping for a miracle so he can sell a Championship club and pocket the profit. I hate Donald. Just thought I needed to add that.
The issue with that is that it would massively impact his selling price. Safc, currently, are ****. So why are we so much more expensive to buy than anyone else in this league? Because of the potential. Get it right here and you could utilise the academy and could get us into the Premier league where we could be worth many times more. This proposal would make it much harder to get up to the Premier league. There'd only be 18 places for starters instead of 20. If you're in the play offs you'd have to compete with an existing PL side to try and get up. The big 6 could vote to stop promotion and relegation at any point which would be a huge risk for any buyer. Money seems to be being based on a 4 year average rather than 1, so even a great season would see loads of "big" clubs who might have finished lower getting a bigger slice. Suddenly our potential, and thus the price, is much lower. There's no positive around us backing this that I can see. On the face of it, it points to nothing being close, because any buyer would be desperate for them to vote against it
I believe they all vote. It impacts massively on the EFL, so they'd need to vote for it. Then it would need to be passed by the Premier league clubs (it's much more likely to fail here than at the EFL), then the FA have to approve it (and it's been suggested that they'd use their golden share to block it). I think the proposal is a non starter, certainly in its current guise. The much bigger concern for me is just that our club were prepared to back it
Just watching SSN and the FA chairman pulled out of early negotiations when the power shift was put on the table, they have the deciding vote so hopefully a non starter
I don't blame the journalist, and Methven can't help himself. He just doesn't sound like somebody who's on the way out.
Nothings changed. Some people say there are ongoing takeover negotiations. Some people are adamant that there is nothing happening. Both believe their sources Until there is an announcement of a takeover or the club come out and say nothing is happening, everything is still rumours and speculation.
Has anyone asked Barnes what the latest is? Just seems a while since he made a comment. I wonder if he now suspects he has been played.
The proposal has the potential to fundamentally alter the entire football landscape in this country for the worse. Anyone who backs it cares more about money than they do it football. That puts Donald and Methven in the same category as the Liverpool and Man Utd owners.
My only real info, on this, is what I posted ages ago which is that 'FPP want a resolution'. As Donald is 'absent', under financial pressure, owing them £9m and risking a third failed promotion attempt I took that to mean a takeover was on the cards. I still believe that but this PL money is a worry ... ... if Sunderland's 'share' turned out to £9m I'd be looking for for a high building to jump off.
