A draft would be great, as would an American style salary cap. The draft has no chance of happening here unless there is huge change at youth level which wouldn’t happen.

    Franchises wouldn’t work in England

Wasn’t surprised to see Americans pushing for this...they don’t get football or its history. They pushed for the game to be in quarters when they hosted the World Cup in order to accommodate advertising and the short attention span of the average American. FIFA said no.

I also get why the EFL support it...they need money now and it doesn’t affect most teams who will never get in the PL. Changing the chance of promotion from zero to a minus figure isn’t important when you have bills to pay.

The top clubs have just seen a chance to push their own agenda during a crisis. Quite frankly disgraceful.

Sadly this just reflects life in the country. The rich and powerful have all the power and aren’t averse to using it to gain even more control.
If I have read it correctly, the number of players a club can take on loan, increases to 4. If that is correct it gives plenty of scope for the smaller Premier League clubs to ally themselves to one or two of the Big 6 and receive the pick of their loan players at an advantageous rate.
The smaller clubs could end up losing their identities, whilst becoming a proving ground for the Big 6 stars of the future.
If the Big 6 are exempted from the League Cup, will it keep it’s European slot, or would it then be allocated to a League position to allow for one of the big clubs having a poor season and finishing 7th/8th, wherever the last European spot is?

I don’t agree with that though. I’m interested in keeping football as much of a sport as we can in this money grabbing world. I know it’s moved on, but I’m not looking for a way for Saints or anyone else to have a better chance of winning a trophy. I just don’t think these clubs should be able to dictate how they do.

It's quite a good summary. I think there is room for compromise but given how dominant the top 6 are already it would be terrible to give them such powers. Perhaps this is a bargaining game.

Why are we one of only 3 clubs (along with West Ham and Everton) apart from "The Big Six" to be given "special status"? Perhaps its time spent the Premier League? But surely Villa and Newcastle would be similar.

I think it might be. If West Ham are definitely against it as one of the nine then there's no way it's getting 14 votes imo.

Not without some other threat of some sort...

It's done by current reign, both Villa and Newcastle have been down since us and West Ham came up.

They've both spent more years than us there in total though.

Palace have been in the PL long than us - this time - I think?

Looks like it might be - bizarrely - to do with our Europe qualifications according to the Beeb, which is odd because Leicester have been in the CL and Europa while winning the Premier league.

"This is the fourth season in a row where the 'big six' have all qualified for European football. In the past 10 seasons, one of them has missed out on only four occasions.

Over the past decade, West Ham have had two European campaigns, both of which ended during the qualifying rounds. Southampton and Everton have also qualified for Europe twice in the same period."

Palace came up a year after us in 2013 iirc.

It's done by total time spent in the PL I believe. We were in the PL from its inception up until 2005 and then 2012 onwards so we have spent a long time in the PL.

Newcastle and Villa have only spent 3 years out of it - it's definitely current reign.

Yeah, I looked at a local Leicester website, and the were saying if one of the Core 9 teams were relegated (obviously, it's most unlikely to one of the renegade big six),then Leicester or Palace would replace the relegated club. So far, so arbitrary, its just to create the merest slither of a veneer of democracy.

Who gives a **** who's done what or who hasn't.The whole idea/proposal is a ****ing joke. When certain "big clubs" think they have the right to dictate what will and wont happen then thats the end for me. The world really has lost the plot this year.

Im being thick but what is the implication there? That the top 6 will threaten to leave the PL and rejoin the EFL if they don’t get their way?

Would be amusing as I’m sure they couldn’t take the CL and EL spots away from the Prem.

Tip of the iceberg...give this much power to the top 6 is like turkeys voting for Xmas.
