Elder was diabolical last night. Everything they did came down our left. He offered as much resistance as a wet paper bag.
As soon as they got that first goal down his side, they knew they had him on toast. That Saunders kid will be in the Championship next season.
Grant didn’t see it coming. Just like he didn’t see the capitulation coming last season. He’s not the sharpest knife in the drawer. Fair play to Honeyman for fronting up on the mistake.
Despite what's been said, we could still do to go back into the market. I completely agree with what you've said. Our midfield has been dominated in 4/5 games this season. No surprise we lost the game in which we lost the midfield battle. Smallwood will make a huge difference next week. Alfie did brilliantly against Northampton and Batty did just fine v Plymouth. But even so, we've missed his leadership and grit too. This should be a timely reminder to everyone that we aren't unbeatable and won't walk this division. But we've still had an immense start, and we can't drop lower than third after today's games. Hopefully, it'll give us a kick up the backside in the transfer market too
The trouble is good opposition managers can see McCann's shortcomings. I don't like Barton as a person but he soon saw the way to play against us, and our manager had no answer.
Well, i'm not gonna say owt about McCant, not after the reaction I got last time and other people have already said what I think of him. The only good thing I will say about last night is those new shirts looked the dogs bollocks, here's hoping they haven't just wore them when we've lost.
I agree that Elder was poor last night but as has often been the case for our full backs in recent times, once the opposition load a wing, we seem to have no answer. With 4-3-3 we never seem to have a wide midfield player to give the full back consistent help. At times KLP got back to help but for much of the game he was too advanced to really help Elder. I'm not surprised Joey Barton out-thought Grant McCann. For all his temperamental faults, he was a clever footballer.
\ With the greatest respect my other half could out think McCant,..... last nights comment was 'why dont they stop them"....
The league is starting to take shape a little bit now and it's pretty fair to say we've had a tough start. Clearly it's very early days and we can't read too much into it but based on tonight's table... We've played against 4th, 8th, 13th, 14th and 19th. Plymouth won again today, not too surprising as they looked a decent side and although Fleetwood are 14th, they've started very slowly and should be in and around the top 6. Every chance we've played 3 top 10 teams in our 5 games. Gillingham have been flying since we beat them, that really was some win. Compare that to Ipswich. They've had a much easier start. They've played 16th, 12th, 18th, 24th and 22nd. Mainly teams that were expected to be towards the bottom at the start of the year, Bristol Rovers aside. So while they've took a lot of points, they would've expected to. But their next six look really tough and we'll see how good they are. They've got Accrington (H), Donny (A), Lincoln (A), Gillingham (H), Crewe (H) and Sunderland (A). An extremely tough run. Lincoln quite similar too. They've played 21st, 24th, 17th, 22nd and 12th. It's surprising to see Oxford and Bristol Rovers so far down the league though and Charlton will improve now their transfer embargo is lifted. Clearly, it's still very early and teams will move up and down the league but worth putting things into perspective. We've had a pretty tough start but still done extremely well
League isn't taking shape at all. Andd even if it was we were 3 points off championship playoffs in December and went down bottom. Only table that matters is after 46 games
League positions and predictions are pie in the sky at the moment. Comments and mood of supporters usually reflect the result rather than performance and managers still get judged on results so based on that McCann should of won the lottery buy now . Football wise we have had a very good start with points onboard so kudos to the club for that. Agree with those who think we still need a few additions. We’ve never got anywhere near replacIng Hudds and Livermore so given midfield match reports priorities should be focused here. Still not convinced we have a solid keeper but at least there is competition now and if we are serious about getting out this pothole another big experienced defender and left back wouldn’t go amiss.
The concern I have is the manner of the defeat at Fleetwood. If we had lost by the odd goal I wouldn't be unduly concerned, but to be defeated 4-1 and to basically lose the plot so quickly, really does have the shades of the 2nd half of last season. Hopefully, with more or less half the squad not involved last season that won't be the case. I agree it is early days, so I guess the next few games will tell us more, and if we recover, then no damage done, but if not, God only knows where we will end up, as I don't have any confidence in Terry being able to turn things around.
Hopefully not, but there is a common denominator, McCant is still at the helm. I had hoped we turned a corner with 4 wins but maybe not TWT
It’s a real concern that the left side of our defence have a performance like that in them, and that McCann yet again seemed unable to pinpoint what went wrong in his post match interview. Will he select Elder and Jordy in the next match? Probably, as he doesn’t seem able to see where the issues are during a game.
