A local sparrowhawk has killed more birds in my garden this summer than my cat has, not to mention magpies and black headed gulls that raid nests. He does a fine job of keeping mice numbers in check though.
There are so many reasons why I miss being in Spain, and this drinks tariff at one of my local bars, is just one of them. I am not much of a drinker, but a bargain price pint is something to enjoy.
You have just made me miss one of my favourite bars in Costa Teguise..,.,,larger is €1.5 euros a pint and fantastic place to people watch on a hot day.
Just seen James Martin on the television cook a soufflé using Old Winchester Cheese. I’d never heard of that. Anyone know it or tried it?
There are 8 million cats in the UK I don't think the combined population of sparrow hawks, magpies and black headed gulls comes anywhere near that. It is a pity there isn't a predator of cats to even out things. There is a hardly a day passes without one of the cats who lurk in my garden killing a songbird. The fledgling blackbirds seem to be a favourite prey as they spend quite a bit of time on the ground. To all those people who think their cat is fond of them just remember if you were 6 inches tall your cat would kill you, probably not instantly as he would want to be cruel to you first.
With you there, Godders. There’s a couple which get in my garden and, unless I see them and sling a stone at them (to frighten - not hit one yet), they’ll take one or two birds. I’ve only ever lost one bird to a sparrow hawk (which hunt for food not fun) but these little bastards are depleting the birdlife at a rate of knots. Owners should be made to put bells around their cats necks at the very least.
People with dogs should be allowed to let their dogs crap in neighbours gardens, rummage through vegetable patches and chase wildlife. That might make people stop and think a bit. having said that, I like the fact my neighbour’s cats keep the rats under control. The crap and veg patch stuff is annoying.
