From the club statement: "Southampton Football Club can confirm midfielder Stuart Armstrong has tested positive for COVID-19. The midfielder returned a negative test for COVID-19 on arrival with the Scottish National Team on Monday but the supplementary UEFA test returned a positive result this morning. The 28-year-old is now self-isolating in line with government guidance, and the club is taking sensible precautions at Staplewood Campus whilst offering Stuart our full support." The Athletic reports he should be clear to play vs Chelsea. Subject to any lingering after effects etc. Worry now is, how many others might have it?
On the assumption he will be fine - this could be good timing really. We arent playing for 2 weeks so at worst he would miss just the chelsea game, might even be back for that. It also means there is a lower chance he has spread it amongst the rest of the squad as he wont have been with them since Sunday.
It should be noted he tested negative before joining up with the Scotland squad so shouldn't effect the rest of the side unless he had it undetected for a while. Also a positive test does not mean he has symptoms or is ill.
I'm sure all the travels around the World for international football will help slow the spread of Coronavirus...
I think the fact that he tested negative at first then positive within a day of arriving just shows how crap these tests are. Having 200,000 tests per day sounds good but if you have to test every one twice or more for it to be effective, it is not anywhere enough.
Don't you dare criticise the test. This is Johnson's world beating fly me to the moon testing. It's ****ing world beating don't you know.
I said it moons ago. That this should have been a season without international and European club matches, and even doméstic Cup matches. Well it looks like the chickens are coming home to roost!
I'm surprised he's caught it tbh, I expected him to narrowly go right over the top of the virus Hope he's ok though, long term and all that
