    From the People Newspaper
New Doncaster manager Dean Saunders wants to give Alan Smith a chance to revive his career.

The 30-year-old midfielder has been frozen out of the first team at Newcastle and is in the final year of his £60,000-a-week contract.

Boss Alan Pardew insists the former Manchester United man is not going out on loan – but Donny will investigate whether they might snap him up on a free transfer in January.

Will they be able to pay enough to interest him? I'm expecting him to sit around and leech until the day his contract expires, then go to wherever will pay most.

No, I think he will go there to play, so prove he still has it and then be signed by Wigan or someone like that, to prolong his career.

He'll go to a championship club where he knows he is capable of doing well and probably help a team get promoted or go to a promotion favourite team like Leicester (if they haven't already been promoted)

Thought from the title this was some old thread from the days of Barton being imprisoned and aided in his escape by some conniving crooks for Doncaster.

    I have a wild imagination

I've got it on good authority that he'll score twenty one hundred million times on his debut.

I still think he will go to Leeds. The Toon will let him go in Jan for nowt and I'm sure he'll
take a pay cut to finish his career there..

He won't be eligible if he's on loan though.

It'll be good for Smithy to end his career where he started it, I'd like to see him do well and the fans get behind him and give him the support they gave him first time around.

He could still do a job for a Championship side. Other than Leicester maybe, there's nobody that could get even close to what he earns now. But better to send him on loan for the rest of his contract, even if a team only pays £15k p/w towards his wages it'll still save us money.

Who do Doncaster think they are? haha

Getting Chimbonda, in talks with Diouf and now want Smith haha

Don't think Smith will sign though. Will want £60k a week until his contract expires
