Is this the kid that Grant was talking about a few days ago? A number 8 that we have an option to buy if we want..
It's called covering your arse in the event of a short term injury crisis and you can't fill your bench.... ....Or if the kid ends up unhappy and devalued as an asset if the loan isn't working out, which is more realistic - 'cos Sheff U would likely buy in Jan as opposed to recall him for their first team if he's not deemed worthy of their 25 man squad in September.
I don't get why this keeps being mentioned, pretty much every loan deal has one. They could have an injury crisis, or more likely they want the option to bring him back if he isn't playing. His contract is up in 12 months and although they rate him it seems likely that they're happy to let him go. If they wanted him, they'd have extended his contract before sending him on loan. It's not surprising though, he's 21 (just) now and has never played about L2 level. He's hardly going to jump into the PL with them
It definitely is, he's a number 8 from a PL club that can play deeper too which Grant mentioned in the interview he wanted the option of playing
Most memorable "recall" for a loanee (from Sunderland) was imo for Paul McShane early in 2009. Believed to be to help them (SAFC) avoid relegation at our expense ? Both clubs stayed up - Sunderland one point above us in 16th spot. PM may well have saved us both ?
It's very misleading to call it a 'clause', as has already been mentioned, pretty much any season long loan can be cancelled in the Jan window.
The CB from WBA (Neil Clément) was another, one surplus to requirements at WBA came to us in 2008 and was brilliant, that good WBA recalled him after 5 apps for us , as soon as we started to move up the table ,WBA couldn't recall him fast enough
That was really annoying at the time, but to be fair to West Brom, at least he went back into their starting XI.
Talking about centre backs, Hector started with us great and then went right off. Seems to have done the same at Fulham, he was awful the last twice I've seen him on MOTD. He seems a player that goes right off when his confidence goes.
That was in the days of the emergency loan though, quite enjoyed them although most loans didn't work out
Everyone think that’s us done in the transfer market? I’d have preferred a more experienced player similar to Smallwood with AGE and GAMES played.
