Wednesday sees The Magpies take on The Exilers at Rodney Parade Stadium on Wednesday @ 5.30pm in the Carabao Cup Round of 16 looking for a place in the Quarter Finals. Newport have a habit of upsetting the apple cart in cup games against "bigger" teams having beaten Leeds, middlesbrough and Leicester in the last few years and taken Spurs to a replay so it won't be a walk over against the league 2 club. Newcastle appear to have another mini injury crisis brewing with Gayle out for the forseeable future now joined by Clark and Ritchie in the longer term, shorter term Dummy, Mongstaff, and Dubravka are still out but could be back in contention in a matter of weeks. Schar, Saint Maximin and Fraser are back in and amongst the training but the game could come to soon for them all. Whistler for the day is John Brooks who's taken charge of 3 Championship games so far this season and given 8 yellows, no reds. Having dismantled Morecombe last week Newcastle must be favourites but I'm expecting a tough game. Scores on the door with scorers below. Anyone betting on a Joelinton hat-trick this week? Formation porn welcome and encouraged: Gillespie Kraft-Lacselles-Fernandez Yedlin-Longstaff-Shelvey-Barlaser-Lewis Carroll-Joelinton 3-0 Joelinton x2 Longstaff
We will lose as soon as we play anyone even close to prem quality. No more business being done either by the sounds of it, so we will be watching shelvey all season.
Really?? They can run, tackle, header shelvey can't do anything... Nothing.. He's allowed to do wtf he likes.. Just stand in the middle and hoof it a much as he likes.. He's not even this great passer of the ball people think.. He gives the ball away that's his job I think
He can tackle and run though and given the other team has the ball for 90 minutes it's essential.. Jonjo can't do anything and Bruce loves him. We need two prem quality cms, but we're stuck with 4 lower end championship players for another season..
Hayden can run so therefore is quite literally a significantly better player than Shelvey. Shelvey is a ghost.
That's nice and all, but at the same time he's completely useless. He doesn't chase balls, doesn't tackle, doesn't track back, rarely moves forward. He is absolutely rooted into his position. If he's not having a good game, he's a complete and utter passenger, even last season he was only viably being played because we desperately needed goals from anywhere on the pitch. If we now have goals, which we do, we need to service our goalscorers and not just sling balls around aimlessly for 90 minutes.
Quite a decent article in the Chron about him being a liability because he's so limited. I can't understand Bruce in the slightest - he's a goddam moron. Players who severely restrict your play to archaic styles should be nowhere near your side. Shelvey is one. Carroll is another. Dummett at left back another, as he can't cross/pass/dribble. Limited pretty much sums up NUFC under Ashley.
Heard Bruce's comments - said some bollocks about us not playing well enough, but it not being to do with "style of play"? I honestly just think he's out of his depth and can't work out the issues.
Yes I watched the presser.. Its took 30 seconds for him to start going on about how unlucky we are with injuries, then when asked about fans not being happy with the way we're playing he took jumped on the 'Oh it's just these idiots up here in Newcastle there's not problem with our style of play' Erm We can't defend, we can't keep the ball, we can't even create shots on goal and this has been more or less the case for quite some time, so 1 what is our style of play and 2 if that style of play isn't the issue then what is?
