Get the lowdown on Bristol City v Sheffield Wednesday with Sunday's match preview brought you in partnership with MansionBet... Aston Villa's two goals inside the first 15 minutes gave City a headache on Thursday night and despite their best efforts, succumbed to a counter attack with a third and final Villa goal late in the second half. Against a Premier League opponent it was, on paper, likely to be City's greatest challenge of the season so far. Now, as Head Coach Dean Holden explained on Thursday night, it is about how the Robins bounce back from that first defeat and look to continue their early momentum in the league. The Owls were also unbeaten in four games prior to their Carabao Cup exit at the hands of Fulham in midweek. Aboubakar Kamara and former City man Bobby Decordova Reid dealt the blows in the 2-0 win at Craven Cottage in midweek. In some ways, it may be a relief for the Owls who can now focus solely on their bid to maintain their Championship status. It's a harder task for them having started the 2020/21 season having been deducted 12-points but they have already clawed their total to -8 thanks to an opening day win over Cardiff City. This was backed up by a 0-0 draw with Watford, who have been considered favourites to compete for promotion back to the top flight. Injury update: Callum O’Dowda, Liam Walsh and Joe Morrell continue their rehabilitation, meanwhile Joe Williams, Jay Dasilva and Tomas Kalas are now back on grass. Win 3-0 and we go top. Won’t happen, we’ve used up our football luck today with the Sags losing 4-1 to go bottom. Went onto their board to laugh at them but only Bluebaldee match day chat thread with 2 comments on it. So I decided to show some compassion, and let them console each other in peace.
tomorrow is the first yardstick on where we are ….. a defeat will indicate not much better than the latter part of last season … average side, capable of mid table. However a win will not say wow promo and top 2 [ or even 6 ] except that a win will take us on to NF where we must win / draw .. they have been excessively busy in last 10 days bringing in quite a few talented players and are due for a win or a point! lost 3!!!!!
Bristol City (3-5-2): Dan Bentley; Vyner, Moore, Mawson; Hunt, Weimann, Bakinson, Paterson, Eliasson; Wells, Martin Expected Bristol City team to face Sheffield Wednesday with senior midfielders to return Our City writers predicted side for Sunday's Championship clash at Ashton Gate https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/expected-bristol-city-xi-face-4552597
Your 2nd sentence is wrong for the following reasons, firstly I have seen more attacking intent in the last half hour of the Coventry game and the whole of the Stoke game, than I can remember during the latter part of last season and since Holden realised that playing Weimann and Massengo together in central midfield, for the first hour against Coventry, was utter madness (the clue was evident in the Exeter game), at least the football has not only looked palatable (which is a 99.9% improvement on the latter end of last season, in fact an improvement from December onwards) and incredibly the introduction of one young player has actually made that midfield look more like a functioning midfield for once (even his brief introduction against Villa help to show a marked difference in our midfield) but not only is our football and passing quicker and more slick we also look as if we can create and score goals (which something that never looked possible for the 2nd half of last season). At least now I feel we have a good chance in games and that we will least compete and make a game of it. If we lose, at least I suspect that we will have had a go and created chances. I have been critical of Weimann but he has earned his place in the starting 11 and his presence ensures that our injured specialist midfielders have time to heal properly from their various injuries because I believe eventually we will need to be playing specialist midfielders. Holden has said to players like Bakinson and Vyner take your chances and keep hold of the shirt and so far has been true to that statement, it is how it should be but was not been in the past.

I’m really looking forward to Bakinson and Williams in midfield. I did think it would be between Walsh and Morrell to play alongside Williams.
