I'm glad to see that yesterday's level of Finbar Saunderisms about Wood going down easily has not diminished. Saints fans can snigger with the best.
Sheff Utd won't go down with Wilder as Manger but I do think that they will struggle more than last season.
First game Vesty starts and we get a win and a clean sheet. #anyone still keen to drive him to leicester?
Ian, you need to stop listening to media outlets views on our games, if you unfortunately can’t see the game yourself. There was no “hanging on” yesterday. It was an awful game that we scored a very good goal and played ok in the first half and stopped a bit in the second half, letting them have more of the ball, which they didn’t really do much with. Alex made two saves. Hardly clinging on. not pretty, but job done.
I have to give him props for last night, that is the best he has played for Saints for a long time and fairplay to Ralph as he had clearly worked them hard with defensive drill in the past week.
I go back a bit further being a '49er first visit to the Dell '55 or '56 when this team would have turned out with Ted Bates in charge https://www.worldfootball.net/teams/southampton-fc/1956/2/
Arguably his two best games for us were Burnley yesterday, and Watford at home in June. He was my MOTM in both games. In those games he was up against Wood and Deeney. As much as it would be nice if all our 19 opponents had attacks like that, sadly it isn't the case. Is there a place for Vestergaard as a horses-for-courses selection? Yes. (Although I'm not sure if that was the reason behind his selection yesterday. If Stephens had played well vs Spurs, I suspect Ralph wouldn't have made the change.) But that doesn't make him good enough to be a regular at PL level. Most sides who selects him on a regular basis at PL would, I strongly suspect, ship a large number of goals.
All these jokes make me wonder how serious people take these situations. It’s the sort of thing that could stop us staying up...
Totally right just gripped the chair sides a bit in the extra 3 min as we looked shaky, but came through ok.
I'd have to agree that Vesty played very well yesterday, his distribution was excellent, but I'm still nervous every time the ball comes anywhere near him. Remember 'One swallow does not a Summer make' - blimey that was a bit poetic?
