I cannot see how you can beat a virus. The world locked down in 2018 and that didn't go too well. Sweden don't lockdown, but Denmark lockdown and close borders before a case is reported. Today Sweden living as normal, and Denmark looking at an upward trend in cases and deaths. Personally I'd go for Herd immunity as I don't think it's right for someone young, with their life in front of them to go without cancer treatment or an opertion to protect an old fart like me, who's had a life. Many of my age feel the same. As an aside, my friend is a coordinator for Age UK, but from the client list of 1,100 there has been no deaths reported, so how ill do you really have to be for this virus to kill you?
Can't say I was impressed by the Government's latest pussyfooting around on Coronavirus 'Lockdown Mk2'. As some have observed, public trust has slipped away (and that's putting it mildly). People haven't forgotten what Dominic Cummings did, and how Cummings was praised by Boris, with the strong implication being the millions of the rest of us were pretty thick not to understand the rules the way his No.1 advisor does. And as some witty person pointed out on TV this morning, the only thing the Government is testing successfully right now is people's patience.
We're going with the advice in Scotland and N.I., and have cancelled a get-together with 2 other families on Saturday, despite Johnson's fist-pumping display last night. Close family only and their partners until the second wave subsides.
Nobody has all the answers, although Sturgeon has been at pains throughout this pandemic to demonstrate how "different" she is.
The anti-muzzle anti-vacc brigade have a lot to answer for, and they include some prominent people who should know better, but they decide to trust some idiot on facebook rather than highly qualified experts. The law must be applied to those who blatantly flout the restrictions, otherwise the restrictions will only increase. F4F please take note.
It was the same with the legal arguments during Brexit - social media has thrown up a whole new generation of DIY”experts”.
I heard on shock jock radio that some muppets out there have begun panic buying again Prepare for supermarket shelves emptied of bog roll and baked beans once more. A pity for the poor pensioners who'll have to go without. Panic buyers are pond life.
I suspect it's largely paper-talk I'm yet to see anything of the sort yet. Unfortunately this generates panic and normal people buy an extra item "just in case" because "everyone else is doing it" - leads to a self-fulfilling prophecy.
The masks you buy can protect others to a degree, but unless it's a proper surgical job and changed every twenty minutes all it can do is lessen your reaction when you catch it. Most virologists agree that it's almost impossible to catch it in the open, and the fact that cases didn't increase with many demos proves the point, yet many are wearing masks in the street and even in cars. I think if covid was meant to kill 1 million, then it will. The nuts element here is that 7 people die in RTA's every day, plus 65 serious injuries. Over the last 7 months just 307 apparently healthy people under 60 have died from covid and we lockdown, yet 1,500 have died in RTA's plus 13,000 hospitalized with serious injuries. I'll except the restrictions of lockdown as long as the Government make the maximum speed limit 20 mph, as there are very few fatalities at this speed.
Apparently there are some truly bizarre conspiracy theories floating around about Covid and the government measures. Anybody know anyone who believes this stuff? It seems to go hand in hand with the anti-vacc stuff.
Must admit I've not heard any of these new theories, but I'm not surprised to hear of them. Fear levels have spiked again - probably the sharpest spike since March. And fear that people can't easily shake off leads many to seek understanding in strange and simplistic theories.
A first post from me, be gentle. It's long, I'm afrad, but gives some idea of what we have to cope with in the hospitality industry. I am on the front line of trying to deal with the confusing and not very logical commands from Government. Yesterday I wrote this to my local MP: Quote I am writing to you as a pub landlord in *******. The latest measures introduced by the Government for the operation of pubs do not seem to add anything at all to the steps being taken to deal with the Covid-19 problem but bring considerable pressure on publicans and pub staff. Prior to re-opening in July, pubs around the country were required to carry out a full Risk Assessment. It was obvious that table service was a higher risk option than service of one customer at a time at the bar. My pub invested in the purchase and installation of a safe-serving area, using a perspex screens with a cutout. This allows staff to operate without direct contact with the customers. Our set-up is very similar to what you will find at a Tesco counter. Other pubs in the district have very similar arrangements using screens with cutouts or spaces. Customers wanting a drink wait in designated areas, give their names and telephone numbers when they reach the counter, sterilise their hands and then take their drinks to a vacant table. This allows customers in the garden to be served as easily as customers drinking inside. It also allows small pubs to operate with just one member of staff on duty and this is important, bearing in mind that most pubs have seen trade at far lower levels than previously and cannot afford to have additional staff on duty. Tables are only approached when vacated and are cleaned before being used again. The new system that has been introduced compromises both staff safety and staff efficiency. Many pubs have only one member of staff on duty. This is dictated by the economics of the pub trade at the moment. He/she has to go to the table with book and steriliser to get done the things that would otherwise be done by the customer on arrival at the counter. He/she then has to take the order, return to the bar to prepare the drinks and then go back to the table to deliver the drinks. If a customer pays by cash there is a further visit to deliver change. This massively adds to the workload, creates contact with customers where none existed before and at busier times creates very high pressure. In addition if there are customers in the garden, the staff must go out into the garden every few moments to see whether people there need additional drinks, then has to take the order, go back to the bar and then return to the garden to deliver to table. Again, if change is needed there is yet another trip needed. Not only does this vastly increase the workload. It also exposes the staff member to prolonged exposure to customers which appears to defeat the object of minimal social contact. Staff have to bend to the table to put glasses on it, bringing them into close contact with customers. Any member of staff with an underlying health problem - one of my staff has COPD and cannot wear a mask for prolonged periods - is placed in danger by this new procedure where no danger existed under the regulations introduced in July. In all honesty the regulations seem to have been put together by persons who have never observed the running of a small pub, have no idea of the financial constraints that pubs work under and have absolutely no idea of the practicalities of what they have imposed. We are hoping to spread these objections to publicans around the country with a view to getting objections raised from many places but it would be greatly appreciated if you could see your way to introducing this to Parliament as a matter needing immediate revision. I have discussed a draft of this with other publicans in the area. One is a member of the BII (and, incidentally, one of your "***** Heroes"). They are broadly in agreement with what I have written although each has its own particular circumstances. If you feel it would be helpful for you to receive more messages in similar vein I will advise them accordingly. I look forward to hearing from you. Unquote Needless to say there has been no reply.
One is that there is no such thing as Covid19. People are not dying, it's been invented by the government to gain control of the population. Another is that London has a network of underground tunnels full of trafficked children who are part of an international *****phile ring. Donald Trump has become president to clean up this ring. People who are shielding are being told that they are sheep for believing in Covid 19. Even a nurse on a Covid ward is being told that there is no such thing. It's mind-blowing, like Invasion of the Body-Snatchers.
