We hear so many horror stories about dodgy charities that a lot don't trust them. No doubt some do a great job.
We hear dodgy things about anything and everything. That's just a fact of life. If you want to give to charities, then give. If you don't, then don't, stop trying to make excuses for not doing it. Simple really. BUT what is a bigger concern is that we're leaving things like reducing global poverty or developing research for things like cancer treatments to charities... or often allowing them to become a safety net for injustices, when really it shouldn't be their responsibility but that of society and governments to bring about that change or to deliver essential services.
They are a very good thing if you are employed by them. Not so good if you need their help, since most of the monies donated is syphoned off, misused, or just plain stolen. I lived in Africa for 20 years and several well known charities/ngo's were located near me. I could write copiously about their activities, but certain posters would complain.
Sweeping statements don't help. My experience has been the polar opposite of yours, both in the work done in the asian subcontinent as well as in cancer resesarch organisations in which I've worked many moons ago and through personal need within the last couple of years.
I think the Macmillan is a trust worthy charity, so was happy to do something through them. I honestly don't know much about others, except the blind ones, (usually the ones i give to)
MacMillan Nurses do a tremendous job. Not only in terms of supporting patients with dealing with the treatment, helping with the finances etc but they sit in on the multi-disciplinary teams that meet to discuss your case and can often be your voice in those meetings putting across your priorities and wishes. I still stay in contact with the Macmillan Nurse who supported us. I can say with no doubt whatsoever that without him we wouldn't have been able to cope or at times received the treatment needed.
Amazon is a multi trillion company. We all use the shyster banks. But charities... Any excuse not to dip a hand in a pocket... until one day If they need them.
Looks like a 14 year old who tries to look and act older you’re a dodgy **** sometimes Bope Get some real women up
haha I was going to put "Waiting for Spurly to tell me she is too young!" She is in her 20's I think. Ill find someone more age appropriate for ya, since you asked nicely.
Trying to make out that all charities are useless in delivering their aims and are nothing but gravy trains is demonstrable bollocks. For example, the charity which Comm has been raising money for - Macmillan, it’s running costs and cost of generating donations is only circa 30% of its turnover, meaning 70% is used to fund its charitable aims.
Perhaps you could point out where in your sweeping generalisation you stated you were referring to ‘some’?
