IF there is truth in the rumour, maybe it reinforces what a good prospect Aarons is and shows what a good decision it was to bring him to Norwich in the first place.
I do not dispute the recruitment decision or that Aarons has potential - although I have my doubts whether that potential is as great as some think - my point was really about Barcelona. I cannot imagine that Aarons would have been of any interest to the Barcelona of 3 years ago. Most European Leagues have been advised to financially plan for no spectator income this season and Barcelona obviously considered it essential to retain Messi over everything else - a decision that is already beginning to backfire as they are having to sell other players to get funds and let the likes of Suarez go for nothing to cut the rest of the wage bill. This financial reality seems to have been taken aboard by NCFC but many other English Clubs seem to be ploughing on regardless and the sports pages of many European papers are full of stories about UEFA already looking long and hard at many Premiership Clubs, especially Chelsea and Man Utd, regarding compliance of the rules and the financial involvement of owners. Lower league Clubs will not be immune from investigation either.
The Pinkun sums up nicely why Barca's offer was rejected: "Barca have discussed including an option to buy - making a season-long loan, effectively, a trial period. They would hold the cards and City would be unable to plan for the long-term and recruit a replacement. Furthermore, if Aarons’ option doesn’t get activated, then Barca simply return him to sender and City are left with a player who may not have played many games in La Liga and his development stifled." https://www.pinkun.com/norwich-city/barcelona-max-aarons-norwich-city-saga-1-6852943
Rumour links us with Bonne from Charlton, striker. Can’t see this as anything but rumour as we have Hugill, Pukki and Idah. Why would we want another striker?
Didn't Pukki's wife post a tweet a couple of weeks ago saying "Here for now" (or words to that effect)?
Read all of those rumours and am not convinced by any of them. Look like journo idle speculation based on "preparing a bid" and other similar vague phrases.
Anything less than £25m up front for Buendia Aarons or Godfrey shouldn't be considered, Pukki is irreplaceable and if he wants to go tell him we will see where we are in January. If we are not within 6 points of 6th place by January then cash in on as many of our coverted talent before the stock plummets. If we look like challenging then keep everyone
If we are not "within 6 points of 6th place by January" then they would be justified in wanting to leave, but I don't think that will be the case.
I share your optimism Rick but you rarely get all 3 relegated sides fighting for promotion the next season, the advantage we have is we have been up and down more than any other side .
£15m for Cantwell will not be enough for him to leave? Although the loss of revenue through Covid May force the sale.
