I am a big fan on Requinto- He won very well at Doncaster although Burwaz was gaining on the final furlon- but he likes the ground good- not too firm but he is a very good sprinter with alot of potential he claims a huge weigh allowance. But he did show at York he wasnt up to the older horses and I fear he may do the same here. but at the moment he is 12/1 so he is a very e/w price.M y most likely choice will be masamah- ran well wen winning at Goodwood and ran a good 2nd most recently! Likes the ground fast and if he can jump out the stalls, hug the rail and run the race at his pace he will be very hard to catch!!
Does anyone else think that Prohibit is a decent price at 4/1? I know that this season's 5f sprinters are rubbish and it's usually a case of "Whose turn is it today?" but he's drawn 1, seems to be ridden more up with the pace these days and was a winner over C/D last time. If he gets out any way quickly he could be very difficult to beat, considering he's got the inside rail to run against.
This race is very simple, the best horse is Prohibit, and he has the best draw in 1. Why would you want to oppose him?
Interesting that everyone lost interest in this thread after the wrong British horse won! I was speaking to a French journalist (in English) before racing and he reckoned that Mar Adentro had a good chance of keeping the money at home for once, but I couldn’t see how that was going to happen as Prohibit had beaten him fair and square on Arc Trials Day. He also seemed to think that a low draw was an advantage in the Abbaye but without trawling through the record books I couldn’t say whether there has ever been any draw advantage in the sprints (and Mar Adentro was drawn fifteen). I did not bet on the race myself but I had wondered whether Requinto might have been the one because he was receiving upwards of six kilos from the older horses and he is only a few months short of being a three year old. Obviously it did not turn out that way. Tangerine Trees victory did kind of validate the view that Chance Gardener expressed about the sprinting division this season. If it weren’t for the dry weather Moonlight Cloud would have been left in the race and would have hosed up on soft ground.
