I hope the pilot and other passengers on this Easyjet flight feel proud of themselves. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-54075771 What a bunch of heroes.
France has recorded almost 10,000 new Coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours. That's higher than at the peak of the first wave... https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-54111209
That's the common wisdom. It's worth bearing in mind that the wearing of face coverings everywhere in Paris - even outdoors - has been the law for weeks now. It seems to have made no difference whatsoever to their explosion of infections. I still maintain that wearing face masks just lulls people into thinking they are safe. With almost no evidence that they do any actual good.
I don't know much about the Rule of Six. But many people are content to follow their instincts these days (the Rule of Cummings). Many folks won't begin to take this seriously until hundreds or thousands are dying every day - again.
13th September update; France and Spain continue to suffer the rise of the Second wave. Italy and the UK are only a few weeks behind them. Once again, Germany seems to have gained control of its own virus resurgence. Over here, Boris Johnson talks about project Moonshot and daily testing for everyone. It's pie in the sky. Fantasy rhetoric from a Government that now believes its own lies. The reality is that Coronavirus is reappearing in care homes. If they hadn't fiddled the figures a month ago, UK daily mortality rates would be back in three figures.
19 year old... I hope they force his parents to pay! https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-nottinghamshire-54131030
Anyone caught throwing an illegal house party should have their family home compulsorily purchased for £1 and given over to house somebody on the council waiting list. Then the offender and their whole family should be re-housed in a tent. That would cut the rate of illegal house parties pretty quickly.
The sun has brought all the numpties out again down here, I’m avoiding the beach and tesco express where they gather in masses spreading the germs
Yes. The good weather and the delay until the new rules begin has made this 'party weekend' up and down the country. However, with local councils being given no funds to recruit lockdown wardens, and those wardens having no powers anyway, I'm not sure many people are going to take the new 'Rule of Six' seriously. There's a fair chance it's another Dominic Cummings idea. And now the NHS is being used to help cover up the fatality figures. If you get seriously ill with Coronavirus and they manage to keep you alive for more than 28 days after you were diagnosed, even if you never recover and die on a ventilator a few days or weeks later, you are NOT counted as a COVID19 fatality - even if the virus is registered on your death certificate as the cause. Now that the virus is spreading again in care homes, more and more elderly and vulnerable folk will fall into this category. Just be safe and sensible everyone. Keep washing your hands and stay mindful of everybody around you.
A second national lockdown is only a week or two away now. It's going to be a return to exercise, chemist, supermarket or manual work as the only reasons permitted to leave home. And we can forget about that brief appeal to office workers to return to their offices. High street shops, pubs, restaurants and the like will be closed again. I cannot see how the Government can avoid extending the Furlough scheme either, if it wants to keep order on the streets. Boris' two main objectives will be to keep students going to Uni and kids going to school. Good luck to him with that, because I think there will be huge rates of absenteeism, at least until the lockdown MkII begins to work (4-6 weeks). The Government will hope to time the next lockdown easing with the run-up to Christmas. I'll post the updated infection & fatality numbers on Sunday I expect, in the information thread. They are not good at all.
Now it's going to be illegal not to self-isolate if your test result comes back positive for COVID19, or if you are instructed to self-isolate by a text message on your mobile. Fines will start at £1,000 and rise to £10,000 There is a very simple 'Dominic Cummings' solution to this issue if you don't like it; Don't go for a test. And don't load the test & trace app onto your mobile.
21st September update; The figures continue to look very grim. Infection rates are out of control in France, and very high in Spain. The UK has the third highest levels. Fatality rates are beginning to climb as well. News reports tell of hospital A&E departments beginning to fill with virus cases again. I understand Boris is going to make a statement this week, I think on Tuesday. I would not be surprised if it includes National measures - another step in Lockdown MkII, but being imposed more gradually this time to lessen the economic shock. Stay safe folks.
76 year-old Van Morrison has joined the anti-muzzle anti vacc brigade, with some new songs urging people to rise up and rebel against government fascist control. Has Derren Brown brainwashed part of the population? Jeremy Corbyn's 76-year-old brother was also arrested recently for organising an anti-lockdown rally . Otherwise sane people seem to be behaving in a very alarming way. Maybe they want to bring back Polio, diptheria, smallpox etc.
I guess my feeling is that if people feel they are so seriously infringed upon by masks, they should possibly be allowed to take them off, provided they are prepared to sign a waiver that they won't require hospital treatment if they are infected by Covid-19 no matter how severe. The general problem here is that it is the front line hospital staff who are going to get submerged in another crisis, and they were relatively high amongst the casualties. People who refuse to take precautions are therefore asking the healthcare workers to do more work and risk their lives, which is a pretty selfish way to be. The same applies to all the youmgsters who continue to try and arrange parties, raves and the like. All well and good if you think you are in a pretty safe demographic group, but the problem lies in the ongoing spread of infection, which these people are helping to continue. Here in Spain, masks are compulsory, and while it sometimes means wearing them in places where you are alone, it does avoid the confusion of having some places yes, and some no. Smoking is banned now in a number of places, but smokers are a bunch of people who don't really do rules, so it does seem they are still smokeing until told to stop. As Lardi says, the numbers are creeping up, the ICU admissions are creeping up, and sadly, the deaths are creeping up too. The current idea is to enforce local lock downs (in Madrid, 850,000 people are now under localised lock downs in different barrios, though it's not as stringent as march).Given teh WHO are predicting a bad time in otober and november, I'd almost be happy with that if we have turned a corner by december and the numbers start to drop again. Such are the hopes and fears in the new reality. 2020 sucks the big one!
No fans allowed back for a while then, guess we’ll all just have to keep going to the pub as that’s safer
The point is well taken, but I admit I have my doubts about pubs as well. I'm not sure making them close at 10pm will have a big positive effect. Still, whatever we all judge is safe to do in our lives, just keep being carful everyone.
I have it on good authority that the virus does the rounds at 10:15pm so well done Boris for acting on this
David Moyes has tested positive for Coronavirus. it’s the first positive result he’s had during his time as West Ham manager.
