My neighbour has an MG electric and goes all over in it - pretty sure he's not getting 250 miles though. The ranges and batteries are always getting better.

Mostly agree with this. If you look back my initial point was simply that the current infrastructure is there for some people to have electric cars rather than a decent percentage of cars to be electric. It can and will change.

Hairy! That particular one would probably sell for around 70 - 80k so obviously dinging it would not be good. Steering is heavier than modern car of course. The gearbox was modern but still takes a while to find your way around it. It was much easier driving on the outside next to the cliff edge along the coast itself because you could see round the corners. On the inside you can't see a thing until you've got a coach full of tourists on top of you.

Once you get used to that it was ace. Fantastic pulling up in the little towns hanging out in a cafe while everyone is checking out the car was very cool.

Honestly go and check the modern Alfa's out. Of course they have never quite shook that tag of being unreliable but actually if you look into it they have a great reliability record now. Also 2nd hand are good value. When we bought the Giulietta a Golf of the same age milage but much more ordinary spec would have been about 5k more expensive. The Alfa is quick fun to drive, nice interior and in my opinion looks way better but that is all subjective of course.

Where in France do you go? I can only speak from Teslas point of view but there are chargers quite widespread and you have home to charge up every night. You don't need a charger. I haven't got one.

On a bit of a tangent but out of interest where? We are considering getting a little place somewhere either in Harlech on the north Welsh coast where my family have a place also or in France. I live on the south coast so is quite a quick hop for me. We'd potentially like to air BnB it when not there so want to be able to work with people locally to help manage.

The place is about 20 minutes from Dieppe. It is a quaint little village - cannot get internet at all!
It is literally a 4 hour drive from our house in London to the cottage there.

Normally the electric car would be great being in London however as a teacher I go abroad every holiday using the car and as such would not trust being able to get to a point in Europe easily

Does your French home not have a power supply, or is it the first floor or something? I can understand not being able to drive electric through expense as the cost a tad more at the moment but I think people are put off and there isn't a valid reason to be put off. Very minor changes and your sorted. Take a look at the Tesla chargers in France (the ones in grey are opening soon).

Yes it does have power supply and it is a cottage! However, the electric lines to the cottage and village are older than @jimileysbaldhead

No reason to not go electric then. When you can afford to buy it of course, the prices will drop slowly. Charged car every morning.
