Phenomenal from Tanguy, brilliant by Kane, great finish by Son. Boy did we need that.

1-1. Son. Ndombele breaks out, puts Kane through and he picks out Son, who still has a lot to do. Nice finish.

1-1 HT. We don't deserve to be level. Awful first half.
Ndombele needs a platform to work off and Winks and Hojbjerg aren't providing that.
We've lost the midfield completely and it needs to be changed.
As Jenas suggested in the commentary, there's a lot of players out there who don't know what they're supposed to be doing.

I really liked that from Ndombele. Channel that frustration into aggression but not over the top aggression. Hopefully he kicks on from here as he has so much potential

Those three just saved Jose from an absolute pasting I was about to give. I don’t know what Jose’s doing with this team in training. We’re hardly attacking and we can’t defend whilst dross like Dier and Winks continue to get in the team, Hojbjerg is also not having the desired effect, had my doubts about him before signing and done little to change it so far, he’s not a destroyer like Wanyama/ Parker/ 2015 Dier.

Get Lo Celso on for Winks. Though I fear we’ll do something stupid like Sissoko for Ndombele.

You would hope that would be the confidence booster that
NDombele needs to play the game he is capable of.

30 seconds after being booked :)
Perhaps they should piss him off more often :)

I think we just let the game get away from us in the middle of that half. When we actually get the ball down and play we look dangerous but we spent a lot of the half just trying to bypass the midfield and it wasn’t working. Southampton press well but we can break it.

Wouldn’t mind seeing one of the two sitters changed, I don’t think the balance feels right with Winks and Højbjerg. Sissoko would firm us up and give us power but GLC will give us creativity and bite. Toss up, really.

We need to be pissing off Romeu and Bertrand in the second half

In other words, Lamela on for Lucas PDQ

I'd be tempted to take off Winks for Alderweireld, push Dier into the midfield and try to get on the ball a lot more.
I don't think that Dier can play that role any more though, unfortunately.
Maybe chuck on Lo Celso instead and hope we can outplay them in there?
Not enough fight or solidity. Not sure how we can change that with the players we have.

Not a good half but the NDombele move in the middle that lead to a goal is the most important moment for me. He showed aggression and skill and vision, in one move. That's hopefully the switch to turn on his Spurs career. Reminded me of Gazza.

Fate has given Spurs so many competitive games up to the
Man Utd game for all the squad to get decent match time in their legs.

It is on Jose to manage that well, and for us to pray that the
God of < standard > does nothing to key players in those games.
