I think Crewe game can be filed under grinding one out. Not pretty, but effective in 3 points in the bag, all that counts really. Let’s not kid ourselves, we were lucky, Crewe weren’t bad, missed a few sitters. I accept this is now our level, hopefully with a few more wins in the bag players will start to relax more and it will make better viewing, more like we saw against Leeds. I still have a dislike of McCann, but cannot knock a great start, 2/2 wins, my socks remain on. Like others, I thought Burke & Jordy looked nervous, traits from last season, hopefully a few more good results will settle them, otherwise at least we now have some good options to come in & replace with. Onwards & upwards.
I agree about Wilks. I think McCann doesn't want to start Wilks up front because he doesnt want to play two up front and if it's just Wilks then what's he going to do with Magennis and Eaves?
Injuries apart if Magennis or Eaves where consistent enough McCann might just go two up front...or at least have that option.
I think the problem is that he wants players playing wide and, crucially, he wants three in central midfield rather than, too.
Top four leagues will continue. Bank of England lent Tottenham a lot of money so they can do the same to Leagues One and Two.
But we aren't. I think that's pretty clear. Magennis wasn't good yesterday but was very good against Gills. We've got Eaves back in less than a month too and with Wilks playing central that gives us 3. Infact, when Eaves is back and we have another winger & midfielder in, it's pretty likely that one of Magennis/Eaves won't even make the bench. They're both fine back-ups at this level but to bring someone in, who's likely to be a kid just seems a waste. There's very few who would be an improvement on ours. TJJ and George Hirst, are two I'd have looked at but both have gone elsewhere. There's really not a lot kicking about unless you're taking a complete punt which ironically is what most City supporters have moaned at about our business over the last couple of years.
Yes, what I meant was the 2nd midfielder would have to be u21 so doesn't count in the cap as we must be getting close to hitting it now. But we do have a limit of 22 players over 21 which is being reduced to 20 players next season.
If Wilks was on £3k a week in Championship he will be on £1,500 or £2k a week now unless the £3k was the League One wages, too. If he's one of our star players you have to wonder what the rest are on.
The problem at the moment is, we're creating the chance's , but not converting them into goal's, and sooner or later it will cost us big time, as yesterday's game went on you could see Crewe getting more and more confident as time passed thinking they could get something out of the game, it was only in the last 15/20 mins that we managed to get back on top, we need to start putting these chance's away, Magennis looked way off the pace yesterday, quite frankly i don't know if Eaves is the answer either, got a feeling goals will be a problem this season, if nothing done about it.
Funnily enough up to the lino getting his earpiece stuck in his ear we were the better side, that stoppage seemed to affect us and from that point for the rest of the half Crewe grew into the game.
We aren’t? Every press conference McCann says we’re still trying to sign a striker. Magennis has been with us over a year now and he’s been crap in all but a handful of games, he should be a player of last resort, not a starter.
We can debate all day about how inconsistent or crap certain players are and I agree with most of it...but the reality of how far we have sunk hits home with discussions about the players of the standard you mention. In years gone by we would look to the stiffs for a bit of salvation especially at this level but it’s debatable if anything more than half decent is coming up through the ranks at the moment and that’s why it’s absolutely imperative the manager gets 100% out of every single player we have available. Watch this space...
