After Palace, i thought we just needed to play teams that come out and attack. We may need to re-think that one...
I haven’t watched all of the game, but there is no pattern to our play and by throwing the full backs so far forward, we are being pulled out of shape when we lose possession. Haven’t seen any joined up pressing when we haven’t had the ball either. Are these really the same players who ended last season?
Ralph experimented a lot in the first half of last season and it was a standing joke about playing players out of position, we were better after we got a settled team.
The Saints I know and have been used to are back. Not happy about that, but supporting Saints isn’t about happiness.
Clueless performance from Ralph and the whole team. Dreadful, out fought, out thought and out managed by pretty much their second team line up
Conclusions: Please never use zonal marking again. We can't break down a 3-5-2. We need someone who can play right midfield. Long should start the next game instead of Adams.
The press never worked tonight and the team suffered for it, may take a few games to get up to speed again.
Deserved win for Brentford. Two horrendous goals to give away. A few things I noticed about Saints (compared to the end of last season): Too many passes into space as opposed to feet. Too many players waiting for the ball to come to them rather than moving forward to collect. Receivers too often turned away from goal and passed back rather than turn toward goal and run with the ball. Not enough runs to the by line. Combined, this results in a flat performance with low energy and its quite easy to defend against. It results in players wanting to just get rid of the ball rather than looking to get the ball back as soon as possible. I like watching Brentford and was disappointed they did not get promotion. They play like I want Saints to play (and occasionally do). Hard work beats talent. Don't worry - we'll come good again.
Before this game I seriously thought we’d have a good cup run in this tournament again this year, turns out I was wrong
2 games of complete ****. I'm not calling for anyone heads or anything quite so dramatic, but it's not been a positive start and there are a number if factors that worry me looking ahead.
We haven't suddenly turned into a bad side. Obviously a bad start but get a point or 3 on Sunday and things will look better. If we can recover from a 9-0 loss at home we can recover from this.
Well yes they are, but somewhere, maybe in the changing room there's this gremlin that only comes alive at the start of the season. Also, not mentioned I think yet, players off to international matches pre-season what effect have they had on us, again? Getting beaten is one thing, being outplayed is another. But there we are, we know this is going to happen whoever is managing the side. Not sure why I'm surprised!
