Scoring in Portugal and Holland doesn’t mean he can cut it in England, in Germany he’s only scored more than 10 goals once I think. Plus the worry for me is he’s 31 so probably past his best. If that’s the level they want then fair enough but why didn’t they get somebody like that last year as soon as Llorente left instead of wasting 3 transfers window?
It will dawn on everyone eventually the day Levy deals with replacing Kane/Son in true Levy style. Then we will know what going backwards is That day will come...if Kane stays for the rest of his career then that day will still come in the next 7 years...however we won’t have a fee for him to help fund a replacement so that’s a double whammy considering how we do spending. we will find out then what bang average means

Pretty sure it was you who said you didn’t want Callum Wilson and preferred Watkins, as you know I really like Watkins but Wilson was Prem proven, surely that’s the best criteria for scoring in England and you still didn’t really want him. Who is it you you’d actually want?
Milik, Cavani would be decent options In hindsight and seeing the time tick by and the latest round of random names linked, I wish the club had gone for Callum Wilson now. Not just the striking situation but I don’t get what Spurs transfer policy is these days, I get and understand they can’t rival the likes of City and Chelsea but they used to be good at spotting young British talent and signing them but now it seems that doesn’t seem to be the choice so it looks like a limbo and they end up with nothing or average
You mean like selling Kyle Walker (one of the best right backs at the time) for £50million and spending half of that money on his replacement Or selling Mousa Dembele (key player) and then not even bothering to replace him Or selling Eriksen (most creative player in years) and not replacing Unfortunately mate if people haven’t seen it by now then they never will.
Think Dost has a stronger pedigree than Milik tbh. Milik has only done it in Holland and Italy whilst flopping in Germany. Dost has done it in Holland, Portugal and Germany and maintained a good-to-excellent strike record. Think 31 is also a good age, I’d say there’s still two more top years left and I guess that in those two years the club would hope Parrott develops to then be good enough to challenge for a first team spot. I’d take Cavani in a heartbeat but he is 33, two years older than Dost. He didn’t play a lot last season either and had some injuries, I’d still definitely take him but it could be quite risky, especially as he’d likely want huge wages. I agree about the recruitment. Though I do think part of the problem for the club is that if they did continue picking up young home grown players, fans would still get on their backs about not being ambitious enough with transfers. The Jack Clarke signing had people turning their noses up at it and I’d wonder if that’d be the same if we done it with others. I’d like to see the club go back to those sort of Dele/ Dier/ Walker signings though because it’s generally been our bread and butter.
Yeah i think Bas Dost would be alright. He'd be a good plan B as he's a giant and is great for lobbing the ball in the box. Good scoring pedigree too and 5m is a bargain
Would anyone here contemplate selling Kane if we could guarantee Walker wanted to leave we extracted at the time a world record fee and had a player who was generally regarded as the next best in this country already in place to replace him and purchased another who many here thought at the time was off an adequate quality to offer competition. Dembele was unique and virtually irreplaceable - he still hasn't been replaced, but it was generally expected that we were going to change formations and that by spending fairly big on Ndombele & Lo Celso we would be able to mitigate the loss of both Mousa and Eriksen who we knew was leaving. This is not a post that specifically defends Levy, as I think we could have done more to see where gaps were appearing, but isn't hindsight a wonderful thing as most of the above were considered to be good signings its unfortunate that none of them have so far been able to make the grade as replacements for those they were taking over from.
Danny Ings' name has popped up in the last day or two - which is annoying, considering he chose years of barely even getting on the Saltypool bench because they offered a higher salary compared to us offering him something known as "playing football"
Surely you don't actually believe this though KH? Aubameyang is 31 and he's about to sign a new deal with Arsenal. Aguero is 32 and is still scoring, he's an all-time PL great. Lewandowski is 32 and he's arguably the best striker in world football. Vardy is 33 and he's still banging them in. Giroud is 34 in a couple weeks, but, as much as I hate the prick, he's done a good job for Chelsea in trying circumstances. Aduritz at Bilbao probably had the best years of his career between the ages of 32-39 (he retired a few months back). If your fitness, lifestyle and athletic ability is good, you can have longevity in football at the top level. Age doesn't really matter - if you're good enough, you're good enough. As a second-choice option or as a Plan B or even a partner for Kane, having a 6'5 striker would occupy defences and would help break down low blocs. It provides you with another dimension in attack, and an obvious aerial threat from crosses/set-pieces. As @Dier Hard mentioned, he's got a good record in Europe and offers more than just goals. I think he'd be a very useful signing for you, to take the pressure off of Kane if nothing else.
Yeah I think that’s the problem, we ****ed up in the recruitment of trying to replace those players but in fairness to the club it wasn’t through a lack of trying/ ambition. By all accounts on paper, selling Walker for £50m and signing a Ligue 1 winning RB who’d made the TOTY twice for half the price was great business. It took too long to try and replace Dembele but Ndombele was the closest thing to Dembele we could probably get. Lo Celso also coming in like you say was to hopefully replace Eriksen. Problem there is that whilst Lo Celso looks like a great player in the making, neither him or Ndombele are better than their counterparts right now. If only the club listened to me and signed Super Jack all would be good - and he’s just signed a new contract with Villa
I'd also say that part of the issue is that Lo Celso plays more like a Dembele replacement than Ndombele does ...and now place your bets about who the first person to say we should've signed Bruno Fernandes instead of Ndombele
Yeah I’d agree with that, problem though is that Lo Celso is both the best number 8 and the best number 10 at the club so unless Ndombele starts producing it’s hard to know where to definitely play Lo Celso. In the 10 he’ll probably get more assists but in the 8 he’ll take more control of the game, like Dembele/ Modric did.
IF in HINDSIGHT............................ That's what this is all about- it is all speculation. Everyone laughed at United signing Ighalo who did nothing at Watford. There have been plenty of expensive flops at other teams. There is absolutely no guarantee this or that player will succeed at a new club.( Torres ) Likewise few expect an unknown to be a future star ( Kante )
