Apart from the obvious ones like the FA cup final in 73.

Think we had a few during the cup run under O’Neill on itv, seem to remember us beating Posh, Boro and both games against Everton were on there as far I remember?

    Any others?

ITV held exclusive rights to live Football League matches, having paid £44 million over a four-year period (1988–1992).before that the football was broadcast live by itv

I can’t think of any prior to the 2011/12 season you mention. The BBC held rights to the Championship briefly but that was post 2007

They weren’t free though. You had to have a tv license.

So not live then? I’ve been around since long before 1992 and had my season ticket/card since around then and we very rarely played on a Sunday!

Its not Sky’s fault the Premier League was formed and they wanted to monetise it, and it’s not Sky’s fault they had to pay the league more to outbid competitors.

It would be nice if there was free football on TV for those without access of course but sport is a business so it ain’t ever gonna change back now.

See I have major issues with what people call “free to air” tv. Fir any tv channel, you must have a tv licence. Not having a tv licence Gets you a fine. You don’t pay for Sky, Sky simply stop you watching. You don’t pay fir the bbc, they fine you lots of money!!
There is no such thing as free tv. Not anywhere in the uk!!

Never understood that to be honest. The TV stations make their money through advertising. Why do punters need to have a license?

Literally forced to pay for BBC mate, they could put ads on, which would offend nobody, and scrap the fee. They’d make more money.

I know Sky subscriptions don’t even break even with what it costs to run the company, it’s all about advert revenue. Sky Sports subscribers don’t even cover the PL bill in subscriptions, and that’s before you add the billions a year for the other content and contracts.

None of us are offended by adverts. BBC should do that rather than take more money from elderly folk.

Supposedly it is mate, but I swear there’s as much ****e between shows on there as any other channel anyway just advertising the BBC itself.

Worst thing is, BBC programming over last few years has gone so far downhill you barely watch it anyway.

They used to at least do good documentaries and such but Channel 4 and Sky Documentaries di a way better job of even that now.

We get a BBC offshoot here on Foxtel so have no idea what goes on in the UK.

Just seems wrong for them to be charging a license fee when somone in France can probably pick up the signal for nowt

Still weren't free though! TV licences have been around since 1940s I believe and have been required ever since on penalty of a hefty fine

If you lived in a caravan you did not need a t v license, shoot and the big match were better than any of today's footy programmes, and indoor league was the greatest sports show lol, alsiddy Fred trueman.

I remember us playing arsenal at Roker Park 1990/91 season on ITV, the linesman got hit with a pie.
