What are the rules in the championship now about squad size? I know there are things about the number of players who weren't youth products in Britain, the number of players over a certain age etc. And also, is that something that kicks in at the closure of the transfer window or at the start of the season? In other words, can we use this big squad until the window shuts and then we have to announce a more focused selection?
Championship clubs will be limited to 25 players under new rules which will ease over-spending in the English Football League. It is the first time clubs outside the top tier have agreed to set the squad limit, which also includes a minimum eight players needing to be 'home grown'. 19 Aug 2020 TELEGRAPH
Adrian Mariappa's departure is yet to be confirmed by the club, but the he was not included in the list of squad numbers....................
Well there'll soon be room for him if he wants to come back - although I thought he had announced his departure himself. There are at least five names there who I wouldn't be surprised to find gone by the end of next week - Sema, Grey, Pussetto, Capoue, Pereyra - with Feminia, Navarro and Welbeck to follow shortly after. And Sinclair, if we can find anywhere to dump him...
I found the rules here https://www.efl.com/-more/governance/efl-rules--regulations/section-6---players/ at paragraph 43.9. You're right YorkshireHornet that we're limited to 25 players, 8 of which have to be home grown. However, under 21s don't count toward that total (unless they're on loan to us, in which case they do). I'm not sure who that applies to, but certainly a few in the squad list are young, so we can have a squad bigger than 25 once those younger players are accounted for.
Not to mention the injured ones - GD and Success. The former wants to go and the latter probably should be told to go. Ans then there's Suarez...
where is the talk, has it come from him himself, or is it conjecture. He has openly stated that he wont agitate for a move, how has that translated to determined to leave...personally i think we will need him, but then again i, unlike some people, think that having him in the team makes us better. He is more than someone to just lump it up to, although we do have a tendency to do this when he is on the pitch, but i blame the coach for allowing that to creep in.
It seems to have come mainly from the Daily Mail - which continually claims that both WBA and Spurs are chasing him. If, as expected, Gray and Welbeck both depart that will leave us decidely light in attack - we don't have anyone close to Deeney's physicality. I really hope that he stays too.
We have 6 players under 21 by my reckoning. (see list on clubs website). Thus we need to lose 4, plus any more to allow for more incoming pkayers (over 21).Doesn't seem too difficult, judging by all the negative comments in the Wobby. If the club listened to those moaning minnies we would be starting with about 5 players, all aged under 7 !
Most of those players will probably hardly play for us this season I feel Seems a lot want Deeney out as they think he was the one put out the comments about players not liking Ivic and because he played injured. Well that last bit isn't his fault really. The manager picked him - Welbeck was injured, Success too and Pedro probably not trusted whilst Gray decided he'd rather have a lockdown party 2 days before a key game than try and battle for his place. We'd miss a fully fit motivated Deeney more than the others I suspect. Murray is older and the Udinese guy an unkown. I still don't expect to see Sarr or Suarez here come October sadly.
WBA back in for Troy? https://sportslens.com/report-west-brom-in-advanced-talks-to-sign-troy-deeney/313019/
Would prefer him to go to Spurs Just imagine the Arsenal meltdown if he scored the winner against them He should of course stay with us and win a champions promotion medal to replace the runners up one
And we know he can get goals if fully fit .. Pervis E sounds like he is off with Villarreal making an offer and supposedly Dawson wants out too. Certainly be unfair to judge anyone on the first few games as the squad is so unsettled.
If PE ends up leaving then i would be a bit worried about our left flank, although Feminia could do a job there if we pay 3 at the back, but does leave us a little light. I would have liked PE to stay as i think he would have been a real asset this season, but if him leaving allows us to bolster or keep sarr for example then I trust the judgement of our owners As for Dawson, what an absolute weasel....he has obviously chatted with Mike Williamson on behaviour...Far as i am concerned he isnt a stand out player and he is deluded if he thinks he is a EPL standard player, 2 consecutive relegation's (WBA and Us) show that he might need to reconsider his overinflated opinion of himself. Final word; Ivic says he only wants players that want to stay at the club and want to fight and earn the right to start in the team, if you have a squad of that type of player then that is fine by me because sometimes it is that grit and determination that grinds out results and is often the difference between teams at this level.
