I am totally against agents I am totally against agents who have anything to do with the running of or any involvement in the club The phrase conflict of interests totally springs to mind imho Let alone a cockwomble like Mendes
My only take on agents is, if a player feels they need one they should pay all his fees. He's working for you, you pay him.
Yep would be fine with that I understand there are good ones out there I even think I understand their point But I just don’t like them Just an opinion like
Just seems to me that an agents job should be to get a player the best move/contract possible. Why should a club pay for that privilege. He screws the club for the highest wage possible plus bonuses and get out clauses etc and expects the club to pay his fee, just **** off
Couldn't all the clubs owners do that if they formed a union type agreement between them that from now on clubs won't pay any agents fees and its on the player. What could the players and agents do? Just spitballin here cos I've no idea if it's possible.
Of course they could. The way it is now i wouldn't be surprised if players went to clubs who offered the agent the most money without ever knowing what the club would offer them.
The whole system is deeply flawed, imo. Agents make money from transfer deals so it's in their interest to keep the whole money merry-go-round turning. Unscrupulous ones can be constantly bending the ear of their clients to push for more inflated wages or big-money moves.
I agree but that doesn't really concern me. If a player is looked after he will stay where he is. The bit that bothers me is clubs paying agents fees.
There's a good sports law website called danielgeey.com where he walks you through all sorts of problems in (fairly) simple language. I checked out his article on players paying their agents which explains 3 ways in which agents could be and are paid. He explains that if players in PL paid their own agents fees it would actually cost the clubs collectively an additional £166m. There's a lot of tax talk involved. Without me going into all the details, his conclusion is that the 2 main problems are that agents commission is not a deductible expense for players and clubs presumably prefer to pay the agent as a benefit to the player rather than provide more in gross salary.
This makes sense, an agent is going to be paid come what may, it sticks in the throat the amount they are paid, but you know the accountants will have worked out the "cheapest" way of doing things
Even if this is driven by tax considerations it still leaves the problem that the agent when being paid by the club has a possible conflict of interest . Personally i'm staggered this practice isn't banned by the football authorities . PS on a club note we seem to be particularly fond of lobbing huge sums at agents which really sticks in my throat .
Thiago will NOT be present @ Bayern training center for medical tests. Key days are coming. Liverpool are still pushing to get him but Bayern want €30m... and Koeman insists to have Wijnaldum as new Barça signing more than Thiago (appreciated by part of the board). #LFC #FCB
Talk of selling Brewster with a buy back option. Would be disappointed to see him leave without getting proper chance.
There's a definite conflict of interest which is central to how the whole thing works. Other agents, like actors agents for example, work in exactly the same way and you are on very shaky legal ground once you try and cap or regulate how much someone can earn. You simply couldn't apply it just to football agents. I agree that the fees are ridiculous. That money should be staying in the game not siphoned away from it.
