Good Morning. It's Thursday 3rd October, and here are the latest headlines from Eland Road.

De Paul throws spanner in the works at 11th hour

According to the Italian local newspaper 'Messaggero Veneto', Rodrigo De Paul has come out and said he would prefer a move to Juventus over Leeds United.

The Udine based news outlet dropped the bombshell this morning after fellow news outlet 'FantaCalcio' revealed that both Leeds and Udinese had agreed a fee of 31m (35m euro) for the 26yo attacking midfielder.

    Gvardiol deal edges closer

Leeds pursuit of Croatian International defender Josko Gvardiol seem to be going in the right direction after it was revealed yesterday that the 18yo centre back had started to follow Leeds Utd on Instagram!

Italian Sports Journalist Fabrizio Romano believes that the deal will go ahead in just over a fortnight, as Gvardiol had promised his present side Dinamo Zagreb that he would make himself available for their crunch Champions League tie against Hungarian outfit Ferencváros on the 16th October before leaving the club.

Leeds set to use Barcelona argument to wriggle out of Augustin deal

Leeds Utd lawyers look set to use the same argument that Barcelona are using to block Messi's transfer to the Premiership for their reasoning why they shouldn't have to permanently sign Augustin from Leipzig.

Barcelona is sticking by its contract with the player, which features an astronomical $835 million release clause and runs through the end of the coming season. Messi's side contends that a clause in that contract that would allow him to leave for free still exists, despite Barcelona's contentions that it expired in June.

Leeds and Leipzig had an agreement that the West Yorkshire side would part with a further 18m to make the Augustin transfer permanent. Unfortunately for all parties, the former PSG man was not fit, and Leeds have been trying to wriggle out of the situation ever since.

Leeds will argue the clause to sign him was dated for the end of May which obviously passed due to the Corona Virus pandemic. Leipzig’s argument would be that in all good faith, that clause should be considered to mean if Leeds were promoted in the 2019/20 season.

    Good morning.

Blimey, we're four weeks from Halloween.

I thought Juventus weren't interested in De Paul?

I love a good loophole and it appears we've found one.

Juventus have made no move for him and would need to move out superstars to fit him in. Who to get rid of and this is just a few as their midfield gets packed with wingers who play various roles
    Arthur
    Bentancour
    Ramsey
    Rabiot
    Khedira
    Ronaldo
    Pjaca
    Costa
    Cuadrado
    Correia

Pirlo now in charge after Sarri sacked and money is tight so Purlo needs to sell and get rid of top earners like Ramsey, maybe Arthur and Douglas Costa but still where does he fit

Phil Hay has been reporting that De Paul is keen on a move to a club where he'll be a main player. That seems to contradict him preferring a move to Juventus unless he thinks he'll take Ronaldo's place.

Think we just let the De Paul thing play out now but Bielsa will not hang around so if Harry Wilson for example is allowed to come on a sensible fee we may take that to get the player in fast.

Worrying story for me is that Pascal Struijk may well be going out on loan as soon as we have a replacement. Its thought Bielsa wants him to get more playing time and exposure as he will only be a fringe player this term

Thiago Almada has been mentioned yet again yesterday but is this just journo talk or is he the option if De Paul drops out

We also need to remember that Poveda is flying in training and sees himself in competition with his mate Phil Foden. He left City because he knew Foden was ahead of him and Poveda has everything Bielsa wants except experience. Poveda is a natural creative 10 not just a winger and is going to be involved this season

    Good morning everyone
That would be a shame, in the little i have seen of him he looks a very good confident reliable player that will flourish in the first team. but what do i know? In Bielsa i have total trust.:)

good morning to Matt and Doc and co from a dull Bardsey
First of all I think you mean 16 Sept when his team play Ferencevacusso he could come to us after 16 Sept
Rodrigo should keep his mouth shut as he will not be liked for expressing his views
Still think Henry and Foyth would cost as much as the lad from Zagreb would be a better solution
I have repeatedly said that Augustine is not fit so we have every right to stop the transfer

Phil Hay just makes things up as he goes along. My guess, and that's all it is, is that de Paul doesn't fancy the move and is holding out for an Italian club to come in for him.

Hope I'm wrong - he looks quality.

Leeds play a friendly against Portuguese Premier team at TA on Saturday but we will still be without 7 or 8 players on International duty

Maybe he hasn't said anything and the Italian press are just **** stirring. But if the two clubs have agreed a fee and reportedly the player had agreed the contract terms, why the **** hasn't the deal been done.

Brentford are not greedy are they as both Watkins and Benrhama are still not sold to anyone because they are way overpriced. WHU, Palace, Villa and maybe even Leeds are interested but the Bees just want to ratchet up the price, I really hope they are stuck with them and maybe it might teach greedy English clubs a lesson. If you want to buy players fast, you can buy better and cheaper as well as faster overseas. I think Koch/White is a great example

Just read this which backs up my Almada claim earlier. If this is true and we do go after him his choice is limited to ow much time on the pitch will he get with the Manc clubs compared to playing for Bielsa. Is kid is scary to watch and I advise you watch some of the clips on YouTube. Nice to be linked with players other top clubs are looking at.

A report from South American publication Ole (via Sport Witness) suggested this week that three teams in England were following attacking midfielder Thiago Almada.

The 19-year-old is attracting interest from not only Leeds but also Manchester City and Manchester United.

Almada has a release clause but that has just increased from €23m (£20.4m) to €25m (£22.2m).

Velez Sarsfield are yet to receive a bid for the player but if a few offers are finally submitted, the player could have a tough choice on his hands.

The two Manchester clubs are obviously huge, but he's previously revealed his desire to play under Bielsa.

For an 18yo, he's very calm and colective on the ball

That's a bit sneaky - can you actually do that mid contract?

"Leeds United are interested in Almada, let's increase his release clause" <doh>

Just reading Bielsa still hasn’t signed a contract. Leeds are trying to tie him down to a 2 year contract, he is refusing to sign it insisting he wants just a one year one...
