Hello Funbags? Where art thou? Are you the new Ghapist, you get ghaped then you disappear onto the Thellick board to reclench? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1992–93_UEFA_Champions_League
Wrong cos I missed out the word "away"? I'm actually not that bitter - I think the users on this forum's constant use of goalpost movement and misdirection sit on my chebs rather heavily
Rangers 6 2 4 0 7 5 +2 8 That's the win bit in the second column - the one that says "2" The wins against Brondby and Leeds were in the qualifying rounds - counting these means that you cancel out that " away CL wins" patter.
Maybe I have credited you with too much intelligence thus far. You can quite clearly see in the link provided by Wiki via me, that the results v Lyngby and Leeds are rounds 1 and 2 of the Champions league. There are also preliminary rounds i.e. QUALIFIERS where Europeâs smaller nations compete to get into the inaugural Champions league. Unless you are suggesting that the European Cup/Champions League started in November that year? Just say: Sorry Mr Edge, I bow to your superior-ness, I am but a mere lapsed Catholic with bitterness issues, I hate football teams and people that I've never met and get all uppity on an obscure internet forum with people that I fantasise about meeting when I masturbate.
Semantics - the two rounds prior to the group stages were in order for Rangers to qualify for the group stages. You won two games - and somehow transfer this into "being in a semi" yet routinely belittle Celtic's European record in the late 60s and early 70s (because of the format/opposition etc) I only hate two football teams (maybe three if I count Lazio). Going by the classification you've used, only 8 teams played in the qualifiers - including the champions of Malta, Faroe Isles etc. Just accept that the format was ****ed up that year, Rangers took advantage and you can all celebrate drawing with CSKA and Marseilles as if you actually made a difference <euronomarks>
This is correct, but the ties prior to the Group stages are also counted "OFFICIALLY" as the First and Second Round of the Champions League. As are the goals in these two rounds also count as Champions League goals, unlike the Qualifiers, Silly Sausage you When did I "transfer this into being in a semi"? Nobody cares about Celtic winning the Euro cup apart from Celtic fans, it happened years before I was born and though I can't deny that I would have liked Rangers to have won it, we never, but I really couldn't care less. I belittle their achievements to wind up the easily excitable ones in their support, like your good self and the Ghapist, your sense of self-importance is up there with the best of them. Now I know you're not alone in having a hatred of a football club, but it never fails to amaze me that grown men, with kids, responsibilities and well paid jobs can possibly HATE a football club, when you think about it logically, it is a phenomenal mindset to have, that you could HATE an organisation that employs people to kick a ball around a park, seriously, I used to hate Celtic when I was a teen, but then I grew up Yes, the same format for qualifiers that had been in place for decades. To the contrary, the format was the last semblance of the old Defunct Cup that "Ra Risbon Rions" won before colour was invented. Only UEFA nations champions competed, which made it easier for diddy nations to make a mark in the competition. Just you accept, that in the first ever Champions League, there were 32 teams involved, from the highest Ranking Uefa nations, who played 2 rounds, to see who would play in the league format. Here's a wee fact that is sure to make you BEEL, and probably ruin your weekend too. DID YOU KNOW, that the Champions League Logo has 8 Stars and that those stars represent the original 8 teams who competed in the original Champions League group stages? please log in to view this image So long sucker
That's at least six paragraphs of jumping around. HTF specifically said that you played in a semi in that year - the only reason I got involved in this thread. Au contraire, it appears that every Rangers fan cares deeply about Celtic winning Ra big wan. Tell me who we beat in the semi again and why the cup is called "old defunct". As for jumped up self-importance, my spidey-irony-senses have just collapsed at the thought of a Rangers fan levelling anyone with that 92-93 was Rangers most impressive performance in Europe ever - McSwegan's header, Nisbett's goal etc etc. It pales compared with Celtic's performances across the late sixties and seventies - it doesn't matter that you weren't there - you weren't there when Rangers won about 30-odd of your 54 titles and you weren't there when Rangers "won" the Cup Winners Cup in 72 - it didn't stop a fans display of the cup when you played Barcelona. As far as hate goes, yeah, there are very few things in life I dislike more than Rangers Football Club - most of those go hand in hand with it, curiously
I methodically answered your points So why level the accusation at me? The only reason I got involved is that YOU said that Rangers only one 2 games in the 92/93 Champions league, which I have now proven to you, that you were wrong Do we? Why would we care about that? I don't know who you beat, I couldn't care less, and it's called "old defunct" because it IS DEFUNCT (and it winds you up ) What the **** is the Spidey-irony-senses and why would they collapse? Well, that's up for debate, you're pretty ignorant when it comes to Rangers and our achievements in Europe, and the fact that we were the first British team to get to a Euro Final, we got to the semis once to and then got horsed, the year we beat PSV, Juve and then got beat by Koln. We've been to 3 Euro Finals, in 1967 we played the final with a Centre Half up front because the Chairman got rid of the prolific Jim Forrest because Berwick beat us. Like I said, I couldn't give a **** I don't remember that, an I was there. So you hate football, because that's the only thing that goes hand in hand with Rangers in my book. Anyway, I'm off home now. You keep up the internet bigotry Jobbylicker.
Aye, none of this winds you up, you couldn't give a **** and yet you compose yet another lengthy response So, you think that getting to the final of the Cup Winner's Cup was better than your best performance in the winners cup? You "couldn't give a ****" about Celtic's achievements but think it's worth pointscoring that I'm "ignorant" of Rangers Euro-history? Card display vs Barca Incidentally, the plural of you is you and disliking Rangers does not equate to hating football Quite the opposite
I was responding to the points that you made, what's about that? WHERE did I say that? What the **** are you talking about now, you're flapping here. Yes I know, another pointless point raised by yourself So, why do you "HATE" Rangers then? I'm genuinely intrigued as to how a grown man could hate a football club, it doesn't make sense. Unless of course, the grown man is a bitter bigot, which I'm correctly assuming that you are, judging by your silly comments of late. Right, I'm definately going home now, do me a favour and try and not bring your kids up to hate, I class that as a form of child abuse.
Actually, I'm trying to bring them up to support St Mirren. They were supporting Celtic like their daddy but got a lot of grief at school about it - purely footballing reasons as you put it - brought up by people who only like Rangers for the "football" and only teach their children to hate other children because of "football"
You're quite right Medro, it was a great season for you guys, i watched every match and cheered every Rangers goal. From the stunner in Leeds to Nisbetts freak goal. But then i cheer all Scottish teams in Europe, just how it should be. We as a footballing nation will never get anywhere hoping that our domestic rivals fail on the European stage. It's about time all this petty BS was put to bed and we start getting behind each other in Europe, take this season for example, what is so difficult about a Rangers fan pulling for Celtic? Rangers are not in the competition. Just like last year, when Rangers were in Europe and Celtic weren't. To many maintain the attitude of **** them at any time. Well Celtic fans, where would we be without Rangers contribution to the coefficient? Rangers auto entry into the groups a few years back was a result of Celtic getting to the last 16 twice. Without the other in Europe, we are both wasting our time, so why the **** are we all still bitching about how **** the other is?
the reason I mentioned the "semis" was because when rangers went to france to play their game, it was already known that the winner of that game would contest the final, so in effect that game was like a semi. as it turned out, it was a 1-1 draw so marseille went through to the final on away goals. the game rangers drew after that was a game with nothing at stake as they had already missed out on the final.
