He's equally good with both feet and can play as a 10 or out wide left or right, we have nobody like that at the club. I'm sure the club will have looked at him and maybe spoken to him, perhaps we're waiting to see what the EFL do regarding the salary cap....in my opinion he is worth a punt....

One thing is for certain, we need to get out of this ****ty league, and there must be a way around the salary cap. I think it's a case of watch this space....

    Good post Nads...

Its ****ing typical of the EFL, leaving everything until the last minute and putting clubs in turmoil...

This should have been sorted during lockdown, they as you rightly suggest are putting decent players livelihoods at stake, they have families and mortgages like many of us....

The PFA should take legal action Immediately and take the EFL to court if necessary....its a ****ing shambles...

Just like that blinder he scored with his left foot down here at stadium MK, he's competent on either side and with either foot. MM would be a perfect fit as they could interchange, plus MM could drop off and play as a 10 and feed Grigg. MM could definitely bring the best out in Grigg....

If we rely on the youngsters it would be a mistake as its Diamond and Neil's first season in the first team squad and Will break down or get injured at some stage...this is one of the clubs most important seasons ever and we need experienced players to get us up and MM has been there and done it, our kids haven't....

personally, i would be hammering everything into cup/promotion bonus' to 'entice' players, then when the salary cap is finally contested (and hopefully fecked off), re-negotiate with the players...bad idea if we are going to rely on just gooch as a 'key utility player' as one injury and the game plan could be screwed and as we have all seen over the past couple of seasons, having a plan B seems to be lost on lower league managers.

Doesn't this clause catch just about any payment?

Other fees and expenses paid directly or indirectly to all registered players.

That was my take on it as well. Basically any payments other than cup bonuses are included. Can see why we've had to step back from a few contracts. Although why we didnt get them done before the cap was voted on is beyond me.

this is the question, all i can think of is that some thought the cap would not get introduced so quick...normally with those in charge such things seem to drag on for years with so many legalities to be looked into and the club probably figured it would be at least another season before it would be introduced to give clubs time to prepare/alter/adapt.

Without wanting to sound too twattish, but that's some contradiction there. The reason Johnston was so successful was that he could cut inside due to being right footed and playing on the left. It's more to do with the option of an overlapping full back which makes it successful or not.

Johnston was mobile though he didn’t slow the game down.

I don’t want to sound twattish but are you suggesting the side wasn’t more balanced in those days, which was my point?

It absolutely was more balanced and the build up play was fantastic at times. However, there are a lot of people who dismiss a left footed player on the right wing and vice versa.

I think it's more to do with the calibre of player and also the support options. Hume could easily be a potent foil for a right footer on the left wing, as long as he takes a risk once in a while (and as long as the winger is willing to use him! - see McGeady's list of weaknesses).

The point was more about McGeady, doing a triple piroette and using his right foot. Johnston didn’t slow the game down quite the opposite, and you’re right he had Micky there who was a smashing wing back.

To have an impact cutting inside you can’t slow the game down, McGeady does. Having a left footer has an even bigger effect as they can cross early.

    Liverpool Mane right, Salah left
    City Sterling right, Mahrez/Silva left
    PSG Mbappe right/Di Maria left

Top, top sides generally have one of each.

Totally agree about mcgeady slowing the game down. He started doing it when he stopped being a team player here. When he was at Preston he used to take a touch and whip the ball in, was how hugill got so many goals. By the time he ****ed and farted about here the chances were gone.
