Such a shame that nearly every team in the PL is sponsored by one parasitic betting company or another. I saw on Facebook an advert for retro football shirt coasters and it's amazing how many different types of companies were sponsors, including iconic ones like JVC and Sharpe. Now it's all Betfair and Bet365 and Bet Viktor and all sorts of similar rubbish.

Still, I suppose it's marginally better than companies like Wonga.

I'm thankful that Portsmouth have never had a gambling company sponsor since I've supported them (and even before then).

Are you still sponsored by Beanie Babies?

Of course there's a choice involved which I said 'completely', but there's been more and more research in recent years conclude that some people are simply more susceptible to addiction problems than others. Possibly due to less amounts of dopamine receptors in the brain or general mental health issues.

Agree completely with your last sentence.

TY, but no. That ended in around... 2005? Then it was Oki, then Jobsite and now Portsmouth Uni.

Gotta admit though, that heart kit was unique at least.

I take it there’s no self-experience here to offer empathy or even understand how someone can make wrong choices?

I think the big problem with gambling these days is the 24 hour nature of it and how you can lose thousands at a few clicks on your smartphone.

Yeah, definitely. Even in betting shops, no one’s playing the dogs or horses anymore, but punters are queuing up to shove 20s into the FOBT machines.

Yep fair enough but your concerns will not make much impact on the club's choice. Money talks ££££

The irony is that when Bompey chose Mansion House as their sponsor, I took the piss that Bournemouth gamble with their Premiership survival with Mansion House.

The amount of times i have made their fans eat their words recently,. I should be more careful.

One of my sons manages the cash desk in a Southampton casino and we were talking today about how their trade is close to pre lockdown times, within the first week of reopening.
The stories he has about the amount of money being lost, by people who don’t know how to quit when ahead, are insane.
He was saying about one of his regulars, a woman, who sets herself targets.
He asked her what that night’s target was and she had two targets.
Walk out with £30,000 or nothing.
She started on £8,500 and walked out with nothing. To some people, losing money means nothing.
On the other side of the coin, a while back he counselled a mutual friend of ours, who he knew, by observation and chatting, was in far too deep, because he was addicted.
My son spoke to him about a scheme where a punter can sign a form banning themselves from entering any casino, with the details shared with all casinos in the country. Our friend did this, and the last time he saw my son, outside of the casino, he hugged him and thanked him for helping him get his gambling under control.
I don’t know if the same information is shared with online betting sites, but I will ask next time we chat.

    Ball to hand or handball?
And how many times would Ralph pull off a midfielder for an attacker?

Willpower is a strange concept. I used to participate in a form of gambling (online poker) without ever having a problem...I was profitable and simply quit when I found my play deteriorating (and when bots started to become prevalent). Stopped using drugs with no fuss because they didn't interest me anymore (granted, wasn't doing coke/heroin or something). Never tempted to have so much as a drink during the week. Never any difficulty maintaining a healthy weight.

Yet I've spent well over a decade trying to quit nicotine. Have made considerable progress reducing my intake, but that took years. Meanwhile, a friend who has struggled mightily with her weight and a couple other 'willpower' items quit with very little fuss. Willpower is not an on/off switch.

Well I've always preferred Max Power.

    Will Power was so overrated.
