It's a 3 year deal, Michael Bailey puts the fee at around £2.6m with multiple add-ons. At least we know who can start in the league cup with Pukki and Idah on international duty.
I’m happy with Hugill. We need experience and sometimes you have to spend for that. I like the fact that, as signings go, he’s pretty low risk and we will get a good couple of years out of him. At least we won’t have to worry so much about bids disrupting him
From the man himself: "I had my best scoring season in the Championship last year and I can only improve on that. That was playing mainly the full season injured as well. Now, I'm fully fit and raring to go and hopefully I can improve on the 15 goals I scored last year and maybe reach the 20 mark." Well, that's laying down a marker!
Hugill describes himself as Old School who is a big physical presence, will batter a defender around, a powerful striker who can get in the box and on the end of things.
He has the advantage of coming through the lower leagues and working his way up instead of so many young players playing for a big team then being rejected . He shouldn't have the big time Charlie attitude and looks as if he will handle the more physical aspect of the Championship. I have a good feeling he will put away alot of chances as we will hopefully creating lots. Happy with this if the fee reported is accurate.
This article suggests we paid £3m up front rising to £5m if we avoid relegation or gain promotion and West Ham paid him a lump sum towards his pay cut from £35k to £20k a week . Quite a sensible and reasonable deal for both parties. He was a £10m signing on £35k a week so basically half price . Weird that he only got 20 minutes at West Ham zero goals and barely a touch . https://www.claretandhugh.info/hugill-moves-on-for-a-modest-fee/
From an ITK: Fee is nowhere £5m. It’s a bunch of add ons to push it towards. It’s under £3m spread over two years. West Ham want him off books.
Hugill is a great signing, he’ll give us different options and a bit of needed physicality. Strange how our close season transfer business was dirty underpants last season yet this season it (appears to be) top drawer.
Nice analysis, DH. Paddy agrees with you on Idah staying: "Webber told me recently they want 3 and it is Hugill (now), Pukki and Idah. Drmic departs in all probability. They felt that 3 in the title-winning season (Pukki, Rhodes, Srbeny) was a good competitive mix."
To me, Pukki, Hugill and Idah is a stronger mix than Pukki, Rhodes and Sir Benny. Just need a strong, physical CB now and we’ve had a great window.
It looks that way to me, too. But Idah, even considering his hat trick vs Preston, still has to prove himself.
Without changing our formation too much I would have thought that Pukki could play off Hugill. I have often thought that the way Pukki plays is more suited to a ' number 10 ' role especially as he is not reluctant to chase back and help out his midfield. Idah would be cover for Hugill and we have several midfielders to cover for Pukki.
Correct - confirmed on canaries website https://www.canaries.co.uk/News/2020/august/jordan-hugill-given-number-nine-shirt/ Think our last no.9 was Oliveria Has many big shoes to Follow: Holty, Iwan, Sutton, Flecky, Robins, Deehan
And on behalf of the oldies can I add Terry Bly, John Manning, David Cross and the best of the lot - Ron Davies and on behalf of us really oldies Ralph Hunt.
