Welcome back B. Didn't post 70th Birthday wishes on the recent D-Day anniversary as I thought you had left the forum. So belated greetings and welcome to the septuagenarian period of your life.

 

Got a PM from candw a couple of days before it shut down asking if I was OK. The old boy is having a rough time of it. His wife died not long back. He had been ill earlier in the year, couldn't breathe and was hospitalised, they thought it was an infection and given antibiotics. Then a while later he was offered a test and it turned out that he had covid-19 when he was badly. The thing about that was his son and his wife had just had a baby, his first grandchild, after years of trying and thinking they never would. She was only 4 months old when he found out and was told he couldn't see his family for 6 months. As he said, he is 80 next year and every day he misses seeing her is precious as he has not that long left.
A lot of us on there argued with candw but he could present a good argument back, accurate and well written, unlike some on here.

Correcting wholly inaccurate things is not pedantic. It is what teachers do, which is where the word came from originally as it was French for teacher.

The old boy has certainly had a rough time of it, one good thing - the unexpected g'child will be something for him to focus on - you and he were often 'immovable object' meeting 'irresistible force', it certainly made entertaining reading!

 

He was only on there because he came across CityMan on another forum. He had some good encounters with DMD as well.
He was apparently a legend amongst Cobblers fans. Got banned off their main forum for not toeing the party line and incurring the wrath of the mod. Imagine that! Free speech,3h?

He only ended up on Rivals as he got kicked off one of the other sites if I recall correctly. That network was fun, as it got a lot of cross over traffic from other boards, quite a few of which hung around once they found the knuckle draggers could actually put a reasoned argument forward. It's interesting to see some of the other club posters cropping up in the news with their day jobs.

What ever else I may or may not think of CandW. it's not nice to hear his situation, and I wish him well.

You could tell that CandW wasn't a man for toeing party lines - and as for mods!

 

I think it goes to show no matter how good your arguement or reasoning you won’t change someone else’s mind politically. good board this in that respect

I know he was banned from a Northampton site for not toeing the party line, as I said. He ended up on CI because he had come across EGD on another forum. Don't think the two were connected.

I know you always wanted to come across as superior but you never have done. Quite the opposite in fact. More insecure.

Not so insecure as to say my opinions could not be altered by superior ones to mine.I will let you know if I ever come across one that is.
