You'd think that now he's secured a new contract he could afford a decent haircut. It looks like he's still using farmyard implements.

well we can't argue that celtic won the now defunct european cup, the competition that UEFA replaced with the champions league to make it much more difficult for little teams to win.
rangers got to the semis in it's first year of existence and failed to get to the finals on goal difference, beaten by a team who bribed their way to the final and subsequently had the trophy taken off them.
if they hadn't cheated we would have played AC Milan in the final.

don't think celtic have come anywhere close to that in the champions league.

So you really believe that they bribed and cheated all the way to the final?

Marseilles PRESIDENT was found guilty of fixing ONE MATCH against Valenciennes, so he could rest some of his stars. His club were stipped of the French League Championship and initially stripped of the Champions League Title, which was re-instated upon appeal.

For Rangers fans to think that they should have been there is rediculous. The match between Valenciennes and Marseille took place on May 20th 1993, this match ended 0-0 and was the one that Bernard Tapie is guilty of fixing. This match was played 6 days BEFORE Marseille beat AC Milan in the final. So where does this CHEATED AND BRIBED TO THE FINAL claim stem from?

Marseille played by the book during the run to the final, they advantage they got was for only the final itself. They should have been permanently stripped of the CL Trophy, but under no circumstance should any team take their place, no other team had earned the right to take their place. AC Milan should have been awarded the Trophy by default.

Rangers fans....Can we PLEASE stop the BS about how you lot were cheated out of a final and had the right to take Marseilles place!!!

Hately: I was offered bribe to pull out of Marseille Champions League clash

Former England striker Mark Hateley claims he was offered a financial incentive not to play for Rangers in a Champions League clash against Marseille in 1993.

The two teams met in the group stages of the competition, whose format at that time saw the winner of two groups of four qualify directly for the final.

Marseille did just that, before beating AC Milan 1-0 to win their only Champions League trophy to date, but Hateley has now suggested he was offered money not to appear in the group fixture - an offer he turned down.

In an interview which will be broadcast on ITV this evening, Hateley said: "It was a friend of a friend, who had got in touch via certain routes, basically asking me not to play.

"It would be financially rewarding for you, he said, should I not play in the Marseille game.

"He was not an agent I knew, but another agent had given him the number. It was a French-speaking person, offering me large sums of money not to play against Marseille.

"It points the finger at a person, or persons, working within that club not wanting me to play."

Marseille won the domestic league in the same season but were stripped of their title following match-fixing allegations against their former owner, Bernard Tapie.

After CSKA were thumped 6-0 by marseille, their coach suggested that he thought some players had took bribes.

All alegations of course, but the Marseille chairman had been in charge since 1986. Do you reckon this was the one and only time they offered a bribe or do you think this was the one and only time they actually got caught?

Means piss all to us though. It was a fantastic season for Rangers and an incredible run in Europe.

Wow, this is a guy who still makes a living from football. He should be shunned by the entire football community for not raising this with the appropriate authorities at the appropriate time.

This is too little, too late.

They didn't have semi-finals back then. The format changed, though I didn't expect you to know that after Celtics what 13 year hiatus from the competition.

"Too little, too late" you said. That was also said about your favourite dishonest politican/terrorist yesterday.

  16. HTF claimed you got to the semis and were cheated out of it.

I remember it well - you only won two games and were ****ing jammy to do that.

They only didn't have semis for ONE year - I wouldn't expect you to remember that as you only "got to the semis"<laugh> the year they ****ed up the format <ok>

Who said he was my favourite politician?
What has what was said about a politician got to do with a dishonest footballer?

  19. That's counting the qualifiers and, if you use that logic, your oft-quoted "No CL win since Shamrock Rovers" is typically inconsistent.
