So they admit last season's price per game was higher and next season's will be too. Sounds like a price rise without the 90 day notice required...
What do you suggest they do? I’ve no idea how any club can plan for this, they all need money coming in. what’s the best way forward?
The prices are unchanged, as clearly stated in the ****e statement above. I think it is fairly ambiguous, 'if you can't attend games, you'll be refunded for them' would be unambiguous and is exactly what they should have said in our current circumstances, this statement is likely to lose more members than it reassures. They're actually asking people to continue paying £30 a month, that they might have to use up in vouchers for the club shop.
They can’t peg the new season at the same price. It will be for now until they take the 2 months off everyone. I can’t see them keeping the cost per seat the same. Yes it is ambiguous in the potential offers, but it is crystal clear on the intent and effect. This is the price. This is why. This is what we may do depending on how things to turn out. It has to be vague on the specifics as no one knows what will happen in October. When I said it’s clear, it is as a strategy. You will all have to see if you accept these consolation prizes if turning up at games remains an issue.
I can’t see it sustaining. They will lose more. I can see the position reviewed in October when more is known, with a reduction and maybe an incentive to lapsed members (like no back payments taken to rejoin).
They have to give three full months notice of a price change, so if they review it in October, then the earliest they could amend the monthly payments would be February. It's quite obviously not going to happen, any reduction for this season would have been announced already.
Vouuchers for the club shop! I paid for watching football, not for tat in a crap shop. Glad I cancelled now
They have to give 3 moths. I doubt anyone would mind them announcing an immediate reduction. Contracts can always be changed if it’s the right way for those who are affected! I think they are cashing in now and waiting to see what happens end of year. It’s impossible to plan, so they have just made clear what’s what now. Although I have made some suggestions I have no idea at the costings of them! If they did allow a “free” rejoin for lapsed members it would annoy those who stayed and paid. Not easy.
" If they did allow a “free” rejoin for lapsed members it would annoy those who stayed and paid." I've stayed, and it wouldn't annoy me one jot. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
Let’s face it. They restarted payments because too many people were leaving. Lots left when lockdown started and games couldn’t be attended. Lots left during/after the Wigan game. Lots left after relegation. Lots left once repayments were restarted. They’re recovering what they can out of those loyal enough to stick around (I don’t mean those that have stopped being members are not loyal).
it’s not clear. The costs for last season are clear, but what happens in the probable case that games are played behind closed doors? Streams and vouchers for the shop are not of the same value. There is no commitment to one thing or another. I don’t know what I’m paying for. This could all be firmed up with a commitment to one thing or another.
It's a very badly written communication, if a professional PR person wrote that they need to go back to school. This paragraph in particular - its taken me several goes to get it. So they are saying effectively that although we're supposed to have rolling membership, the year runs from July - June. We didn't make a payment in July 2020, so the payments for August 2020 to June 2021 cover all the home matches that (theoretically) we'll be able to attend. And we're paying the same for League 1 football as we did for Championship. Sod credit in Tiger Leisure. If we can't (or don't want to) attend matches in person after October, I want my money back. We're this close to cancelling as it is.
I know its an unprecedented situation, but the comments above are highlighting some of the problems with a membership system rather than the usual season ticket. Has any other club followed the best run club in the country and implemented a similar system?
The one thing that is clear is that there will be no recompense for the first two home games of the season with no fans in attendance - you were compensated for that in July. It might be fair, technically, but it utterly tin-eared to the feelings of supporters who have watched from afar as their team collapsed over recent months, and either decided to pie the whole thing off or face the prospects of paying the same monthly cost for inferior football. It’s, true to type, an appallingly hamfisted way to run a football club.
