Good question. Can't be long off. I'm going for a belter. Rochdale away!! I know it's tough, but think tick.
James Scott #11, Josh Emmanuel #12, Martin Samuelsen #14, Ryan Tafazolli #16 and Keane Lewis-Potter #19 as well, judging by the new training kit. I'd assume that means Lewie Coyle will be #2 and Callum Elder will be #3, and Richie Smallwood wore #6 for Blackburn and that's available. Rest is anyone's guess but I think I saw Max Sheaf wearing #22 and Jacob Greaves #24.
New squad numbers are just about the most exciting part of our pre-season. I kinda like it when squad numbers are nice and organised.
This is probably our strongest and most-likely starting XI going into the opening day of the season, as of right now. Can't see McCann changing from 4-3-3.
It is .... and at least we appear to have a decent (for the division) RB and holding CM, but as we saw last season, with the players at our disposable, it's easily exploited by the opposition unless the 2 wide men work their bollox off tracking back, and it's ineffective unless the 2 wide men work their bollox off to get forward to support the lone striker. I don't see them doing that. And with no flexibility from McCann with his tactics, the opposition know exactly what to expect. I just don't see any real difference unless McCann changes his approach. I'd like to see 2 proper forwards (Magennis & Eaves, or one of Magennis or Eaves & KLP, or even one of Magennis or Eaves & Wilks). 5 3 2 or 4 4 2 or 4 3 1 2 ... whatever, just not more of the crap we endured last season.
On paper, that team should piss all over League One but we play on grass, not paper, and McCann is unwilling to change tactics at all when it isn't going our way. I'd like something like this. The two upfront could be a pair of either Wilks, Scott, Eaves and Magennis. Depending on the opposition, we could use two pacy forwards or a target man and a pacy forward. Coyle and Emmanuel could rotate as well.
I'd like to see Samuelson in there. I see him as a Toral replacement. 2 midfielders like Smallwood, Honeyman, Lopes or Batty to do the leg work and him to do the creative stuff. We do have a team that should be able to get out of the league...
I'd like to see more of Samuelsen. Where do you think he would he play though? As a playmaker, centre-forward or winger?
Fair enough. His strongest position is supposedly on the wing so he could either play left-wing in a 4-3-3 or behind the striker in 4-2-3-1. Whatever McCann goes with I guess but I was disappointed he didn't get enough game time last season.
