Footballing aside, he just seems a bit of a smarmy ****e - take for example his car-crash antics in lockdown, he's obviously a Rooney waiting to happen, give him the big money and he'll turn into a piss head, a liability to the club. There must be another MF option out there without a ton of hair gel.

I'm one of Rooney's fairest critics but he did a tad alright at United tbf <laugh>

As for Grealish, he has certain attributes which I like. He's a mf who likes to dribble with the ball at defences as well as being pretty bang on with his passing into the box every time I've watched him. So much so I've noticed it far more with him than any mf outside the top 4. He's also good at winning the ball further up the pitch. Maybe I see those things and the commitment he shows for a club he wants to play for and I think under the right management he can be guided to become a really good attacking or dare I say box to box midfielder. Or maybe I have a bit of yearning for United to play an old skool English midfielder... fck knows!

United are apparently close to signing Lille centre back Gabriel Magalhaes for £27m. Don't know anything about him, maybe someone here does.

I wonder if that had anything to do with Gomes signing for Lille......

Wouldn't have thought so, Ole and the club wanted Gomes to stay but he did a Pogba and demanded guaranteed game time and ran his contract out.

FFS pay the man. Give them £80m now and structure another £10m in achievable ad-ons over the next 12 months. We've saved Sanchez's wages and we are yet to off-load Rojo, Jones, Smalling, Lingard and Bailley - that's £300m at least !!!

We have Eddie at the helm mate. I kid you not, there are estate agents I know who could do a better job than him. He's basically landed on his feet in a role he is totally incompetent in.

From what I've seen reported, when Dortmund gave the deadline date, United didn't respond, they ignored it and went quiet. Now, I'm not saying we should've been intimidated by a bullshit deadline, but some formal offer should've gone in at that point to show that whilst we're not going to just cave in, we are however serious about the player.

To go silent was only going to piss them off and make them take a more defensive line. Fcking clueless arseholes <doh>

I really really miss Gill :(

Do you remember the old days, 3 days into a window, **** all, two weeks into a window, **** all. The next day, Manchester United are delighted to announce the signings of X an Y players.

Done in privacy and done with efficiency.

I was actually thinking the same thing earlier. Very well respected also. Probably fot that very reason.

We won't get Gill back but it shows we desperately need a restructuring... with a proper Sporting Director and Eddie's role reduced to writing the Glazer cheques and ordering the paper clips.

Things can't be made easier if, as reported, Dortmund have insisted that negotiations be conducted through intermediaries. Quite why I can't imagine as it would necessarily complicate things.

I'd be more concerned if we were desperate for a player in this position but the emergence of Greenwood means we're not.

I actually think Grealish (or his ilk), securing a number 9, and a centre half is more pressing.

Don't get me wrong, Sancho is excellent and would turn out to be a top signing, but he's not necessarily the signing we need.

Having said that, if I woke up tomorrow and we'd coughed the £100million I'd be happy enough.

The thing is United are not happy that rumours (which United deny) were coming out of Dortmund that personal terms had been agreed between United and Sancho. And that was actially happening as I remember reading about it at the time just a few weeks ago.

Instead United have said there are real stumbling blocks between player demands and what United want to offer Sancho, which immediately rings alarm bells of another fcking mercenary wanting to join the club. If true, I'd rather not have him. Can't be dealing with a Pogba/Sanchez drama mark 2!

Our history with very expensive signings is not that great is it? How many times did we fail when we paid over the odds to extract a player from their club or stop him going somewhere else?

if the club thinks that E120m is too much then they should walk away. We should get hungry and competitive players willing to give 100%. I am not saying Sancho is not that player but there must be other alternatives.

That slot on the right is one of our major weaknesses at the moment. Bissaka is undoubtedly one the best RB's in the PL but he needs someone ahead of him, someone who can pose an attacking threat so, if not Sancho, who should we sign?
