This guy is super talented. I have no doubt that this is a stepping stone move for him. In a few seasons he could be good enough to play for anyone in the world. That's how much potential he has. Could be the next Van Dijk. Really excited to see him in a Saints shirt.
Good to get two defensive signings wrapped up early ready for the beginning of pre season. Midfielder next.
I do wonder how long it will take big teams to learn to take a chance on players before they go to Saints and then have to pay an absolute fortune. 12mill is an absolute steal. Bigger teams than us were definitely interested in Salisu but the promise of regular first team football in the PL was key to us getting him. I've waited until the signing was confirmed before raving about him as I didn't want to jinx it. I've seen enough of him to know that he's got all the attributes to be a fantastic defender.
This guy is a big talent. Really pleased we got him. But he is a young cb - he may well need some time.
He is the new Eric Bailly, which is a big upgrade on what we have. Remains to be seen if the large potential he has is reached
The big teams don’t need to take that gamble, they can afford to wait and see which players actually make it in the PL and just pay top dollar for them. There are far more failures in the 10-20m price range than successes (in terms of being good enough for a top 6 team) across the league
The money doesn't really matter that much for the biggest clubs, and given that they have little patience for development minutes (particularly in defense), they have a strong incentive to wait until a player has proven their value, and then swoop in with chequebook in hand.
Two signings made, and there is still a month to go before the season starts - this isn`t the Saints way !. Come on Saints board, get your act together!
Nice to have the one wrapped up too! Sounds like he’s had quite the meteoric rise!! Let’s hope it continues with us! Welcome Salisu
I laughed when the young woman sports reporter on Radio Five couldn't pronounce Valladolid. FFS where do they get them from? It sounds like "by 'ole doll ith". A lovely city which I visited many times in my younger days to bulk by Ribera Del Duero. Then I discovered malt whiskey and haven't been back.
Our defensive options suddenly look very good, maybe even allowing Stephens to have a DM role if needed. We have one of the best strikers in the league and one of the best up and coming strikers who is now full of confidence. We have a player's with flair, speed, strength and energy. I am usually full of hope at the start of a season and this year it feels even better. We could be on for an exciting journey. I just hope it's safe enough for us to be able to witness first hand.
And hopefully Djenepo can steer clear of injury and get a full season under his belt and increase the competition for places.
