At first glance there is a poor looking bit of value in the 1.25 Haydock

Kevin Ryan has Will Sommers running and the horse is 3/1 Favourite in a 16 runner handicap. Not really an each-way proposition at those odds, it is a bit puzzling that so many tipsters are all over him, given that he is a maiden with a 5th and a 4th to his name so far. Gelded in May, the Teofilio horse was then given wind surgery after his second start in June.

I am assuming they feel the horse is capable of more and his handicap mark of 70 may underestimate him if the procedures have the desired effect but 3/1 for a maiden in a big field handicap race seems pretty poor value.

They are not giving him much time to shine before taking remedial action and I wonder if a glass eye and wooden leg might be next for him? He may well prove to be well handicapped but the odds are skinny enough.

I fancied Union Spirit to upset a Haggas hotpot last time but he was pulled out of the race. Union Spirit had been fitted with cheekpieces and made all the running to land two races and he has now been raised 8 lbs. No doubt he will be prominent in the bid for the hat-trick but I am not sure why he was pulled out last time and it is a bit off-putting.

Turkestan has a virtually identical profile to the favourite here. He has had two runs, a sixth and a third, before also suffering the dreaded gelding procedure. It looks a classic scenario for his first foray into handicap company that they step him up to 10F after two runs at a mile. James Doyle rides for Roger Varian and he represented better value to me, with as much scope as the Ryan horse but available at double the odds.

In a race where the first three in the betting are geldings, I'll take Turkestan to show the most balls, if you know what I mean.

    1.25 Haydock Turkestan 6/1

PS Will Sommers as low as 5/4 with William Hill, they must be cacking their pants there.

I don't normally back the bloke but Ryan Moore looks to have 3 good chances at Wolves today so my only bet of the day is a win treble on those.

Good luck to anyone having a bet today.

The bet went down because the horse ran in to a pocket and got blocked in, the poor jockey tried with
all his might to put the horse on the straight and narrow but alas it was too late and the chance had gone.

Not to worry mate if you want to back farm animals then that's your choice.<laugh>

Well the bad Fav got beat but he did better than Turkestan. Will Sommers was crazy short in some spots overnight but the odds stabilised this morning, Turkestan was held up and had plenty to do. He did start a run and was threatening to finish in the money but then looked as if he didn't get the new trip.

Union Spirit was very uneasy in the betting but tried to do it from the front before weakening. He'll need some ease from the Handicapper to be competitive again.

Little bit disappointed by Turkestan, I really felt he would have placed today but he just never sustained the run. The Fav sat in a good position but never found much at the key moment. Maybe a drop in trip next time?

Thank God I'm running out of vacation time. The worst fortnight I can remember in terms of gambling.

Don't bet Alnaseem in Lingfield 18.55 because that's the other bet I have today.

I actually saw a tip for this horse this morning, bearing in mind there were 15 runners:-

    15th (10)28 [88¼]

    FONZIE 28/1

Not one of his Happy Days today then. I reckon he would have been 99th if there were that many in the field.

I was looking at the 1000 Guineas betting and saw that four firms still have Fly Miss Helen in the betting. The Hannon filly was fatally injured at the weekend in a sickening incident. Poor taste from those bookies not taking her name out of the list.

Those in the know smashed simply sin in 5:15 wolves and he duly obliged at 11/4 having been as big as 14/1 earlier and having watched the race and ss hit 230 in running before winning like the proverbial train and both first two finishing 6 lengths ahead of the field, someone definitely had it off, but watch out for global acclimation nto

Say what you want about David Pipe but he’s got another win out of Leoncavallo there. I remember him running up a nice sequence as a juvenile hurdler for John Ferguson a few years ago. One of the Bloomfield’s ex-Godolphin runners I think.
